CHO SHOOTS EVEN PAR TO LEAD AT THE DEUTSCHE BANK PARTNERS FOR CHARITY JUNIOR SHOOT OUT
Morris leads by three strokes in the Girls Division at Dedham Country & Polo Club

DEDHAM, Mass. — Andrew Cho of Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., leads after the first round at the Deutsche Bank Partners for Charity Junior Shoot Out after shooting an even-par 70 Tuesday. Rachel Morris of Carlsbad, Calif., is leading the Girls Division with a first-round total of 3-over-par 73.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Deutsche Bank Partners for Charity Junior Shoot Out is a 54-hole stroke play event held at Dedham Country & Polo Club. The 99-player field features players from 21 states, Taiwan and South Korea. The Boys Division is playing the par-70 Dedham Country & Polo Club at 6,079 yards, while the Girls Division is playing it at 5,563 yards.

Steady rain fell throughout the day, but Cho kept his focus to card a front-nine 2-under-par 34 and take the Boys Division lead with four birdies on the day.

“I just tried to be patient out there with the tough conditions and when I needed to make it, I did,” Cho said. “I made a couple good putts for par that kept my momentum going. Tomorrow I just want to have the same attitude, focus on every shot and try to shoot around even par.”

Michael Decker of Pebble Beach, Calif., shot a back-nine 1-under-par 33 to put him in second place at 1-over-par 71. Tied for third, two strokes off the lead at 2-over-par 72, are Taylor Peck of Westwood, Mass., Christopher Melvin of Medfield, Mass., Jack Cottrill of Charlotte, N.C., Joshua Feinberg of Hudson, Mass., and Sean Gaudette of South Hadley, Mass.

Ranked No. 11 in the Polo Golf Rankings, Morris is looking for her fifth AJGA victory. She was two-over-par after her first five holes, but fired back-to-back birdies on Nos. 8 and 9 to get back to even par at the turn.

“I got off to a slow start, but after my birdies on Nos. 8 and 9, I felt like I was coming back and getting used to the conditions,” Morris said. “My goal is to get three birdies every nine holes. Hopefully I can birdie the par-5s to take advantage of those and go really low tomorrow.”

Jacqueline Calamaro of Newtown Square, Pa., is three off the lead at 6-over-par 76. Rounding out the top three is Jordan of Lippetz of Bradenton, Fla., with a first-round total of 7-over-par 77.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA, the largest Association of its kind, has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 50 states and 25 foreign countries.

Titleist, the AJGA's National Sponsor, has been the catalyst and driving force behind the Association's success since 1989. Rolex Watch USA, which is in its third decade of AJGA support, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004. In 2007, after 12 years of support, Polo Ralph Lauren became the AJGA's second Premier Partner.

AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. More than 200 former AJGA juniors currently play on the PGA and LPGA Tours and have compiled more than 350 wins.
