THREE-WAY TIE FOR LEAD IN BOYS DIVISION AT DALHOUSIE JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
Harter leads Girls Division at 1-over-par 73

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — After the first round of the American Junior Golf Association's Dalhousie Junior Championship, Drew Miller of Clarksville, Tenn., Adam Dolezal of Lake Forest, Ill., and Tyler Brown of Lee's Summit., Mo. lead the Boys Division after carding 2-under-par 70s. Courtney Harter of Clearwater, Fla., leads the Girls Division by three shots after posting a 1-over-par 73.

Conducted by the AJGA, the Dalhousie Junior Championship is a 54-hole stroke play event being held at Dalhousie Golf Club. The 144-player field features players from 28 states and Canada. The course is being played as a 6,970-yard par 72 for the Boys Division and a 6,063-yard par 72 in the Girls Division.

By taking advantage of his long game and making birdie putts on Nos. 15, 16 and 18, Dolezal made his way to a first-place lead.

“I told my dad last night that if I hit my driver solid I could score well,” Dolezal said. “Tomorrow I'll stay patient and I hope to make more putts.”

Miller said he was confident throughout his entire round. He mentioned the key to his scoring was to hit fairways and greens.

“I played like I wanted to,” Miller said. “The course is in spectacular shape and the greens are perfect.”

Brown, the third co-leader in the Boys Division, made birdies on Nos. 4 and 6 to shoot 2-under-par 34 on the front nine, and three more on Nos. 13, 14 and 18 to make even-par on the back nine.

William Hunt of Paducah, Ky., carded an even-par 72 and sits in fourth, while Eric Lodge of Houston, Chase Lovett-Woodsum of Boston, and Derek Baade of St. Joseph, Mo. posted 1-over-par 73s and are tied for fifth entering Wednesday's second round.

In the Girls Division, Harter, who has signed a letter of intent with University of Alabama, said a win at Dalhousie Golf Club would be a nice reward for all her hard work and a great confidence booster. She has won two previous AJGA events, including the Nike Golf Junior at Lee County in 2004 and the Golf Pride Junior Classic in 2006.

“The course is tough and I just played one shot at a time which helped me scramble for par,” Harter said. “I have the same game plan for tomorrow; just worry about my own game.”

Currently in second place is Stephanie Wagstaff of Asheville, N.C., firing a 4-over-par 76. In third place is Emma Talley of Princeton, Ky., at 5-over-par 77.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The largest Association of its kind, the AJGA has a junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 49 states and 30 foreign countries.

Rolex Watch USA, which is in its third decade of AJGA support, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004. In 2007, after 12 years of support, Polo Ralph Lauren became the AJGA's second Premier Partner.

AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. More than 160 former AJGA juniors currently play on the PGA and LPGA Tours and have compiled more than 300 wins.
