High school teammates will duke it out in third-round play

ORLANDO, Fla. — Andrew Yun of Tacoma, Wash., came from behind to tie for the lead with first-round leader Kyle Stanley of Gig Harbor, Wash., Wednesday. Stanley and Yun lead the field at 4-under-par 140 after two rounds of play at the HP Boys Junior Championship.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the HP Boys Junior Championship is a 72-hole event held at Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club & Lodge, home of the PGA TOUR's Arnold Palmer Invitational. Past champions of the event include Tiger Woods (1992), David Duval (1989), and Jim Furyk (1987). The tournament features 84 boys, ages 14-18, from 23 states, Colombia and Taiwan. The field includes 24 Rolex Junior All-Americans.

First-place honors are an all familiar feeling for Stanley and Yun. Yun was champion at the FootJoy Boys Invitational in June, while Stanley was the 2005 champion at the HP Boys Junior Championship.

With six birdies on the day, Yun said he is confident he has what it takes to go home with the win.

“I know that I can win, I've done it once and hopefully I'll continue to play well,” Yun said. “I just need to give myself more opportunities.”

After a first-round lead of three strokes, Stanley carded 13 pars on the par-72 course and explained with the correction of a few things, he'll be looking towards a good third round.

“I made a couple of bad swings that cost me some shots today,” Stanley said. “Thursday I'm going to go out and play my own game.”

Stanley and Yun, who are familiar playing partners, are on the same high school team and Stanley said he is confident the two will have a good round Thursday.

“We'll have a good time, he's a good buddy of mine,” Stanley said. “We are going to be competitive for the four and a half hours, but we'll have fun.”

Rounding out the top 10 are Peter Uihlein of Bradenton, Fla., in third place with a 3-under-par 141. Josh Jones of The Colony, Texas, stands alone in fourth place with a 2-under-par 142. Tied for fifth are Bud Cauley of Jacksonville, Fla., John Popeck of Washington, Pa., David Dannelly of Easley, S.C., Ji Moon of Lake Mary, Fla., and Bennett Klaus of Edmond, Okla., with scores of 144. Tied for tenth place are Morgan Hoffmann of Wyckoff, N.J., Ravi Patel of Naperville, Ill., Amory Davis of Winston-Salem, N.C., Sihwan Kim of Buena Park, Calif., Richard Lee of Chandler, Ariz., John Peterson of Fort Worth, Texas, and Alexander Sitompul of Bradenton, Fla., finishing with scores of 1-over-par 145.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA, the largest Association of its kind, has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 50 states and 30 foreign countries.
