KREPS FIRES 1-UNDER-PAR TO TAKE MEDALIST HONORS
HARBOR SPRINGS, Mich. — Justin Kreps of Pittsburgh, Pa., fired a 1-under-par 71 to take medalist honors in the Srixon Qualifier for the Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Boyne Highlands. In the Girls Division, Anne Ormson of Granger, Ind., carded a 2-over-par 74 to finish five strokes ahead of the field.
The Srixion Qualifier Series for the Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Boyne Highlands was an 18-hole shotgun qualifier presented by the American Junior Golf Association at Boyne Highlands Resort in Harbor Springs, Mich. The 99-qualifier field boasted 83 boys and 16 girls from 14 states and two countries.
Kreps strung together three consecutive birdies on the back nine en route to besting the field by two strokes taking medalist honors. The win was his first in a Srixon Qualifier event. He will turn his attention to the Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Boyne Highlands which he will play in this week.
“I felt really good today and things really began to click,” Kreps said. “I had some good up and downs that really helped me out there.”
Also qualifying in the Boys Division were Nicholas Carbary of Kalamazoo, Mich., Cabe Prieskorn of Texarkana, Texas, Alexander Lyall of Novi, Mich., Robert Blaker of New Castle, Ontario, Andrew Mackessy of Dublin, Ohio, Peter Jensen of Okemos, Mich., Benjamin Yacko of Toledo, Ohio, Nicholas Marshall of Grand Ledge, Mich., and Mark Reinhold and Rob Stewart both of Cincinnati.
In the Girls Division, Ormson was able to take advantage of good breaks to earn her first Srixon Qualifier medal. She will now play in the Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Boyne Highlands, as she is in search of her first AJGA tournament win.
“I putted very well today and got a lot of shots up and down,” Ormson said. “It really felt like a practice round and hopefully it will help in the tournament.”
Alex Brown of Potomac, Md., and Colleen Lienesch of Centerville, Ohio, qualified for the Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Boyne Highlands.
