RECORD-SETTING PERFORMANCES HIGHLIGHT FIRST ROUND AT LONG COVE
Trimble leads Boys Division at 6-under-par, Osborn and Burlison fire 68 to lead Girls Division

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Blake Trimble of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., fired a competitive course record of 6-under-par 65 to lead the Boys Division after the first round of the Rolex Tournament of Champions. In the Girls Division, the women's competitive course record was bested by a pair of Californians at Long Cove Club, as Jennifer Osborn of Huntington Beach, and Sydney Burlison of Salinas, carded a 3-under-par 68, to lead after the first day.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Rolex Tournament of Champions is a 72-hole stroke-play event with a cut in both divisions after two rounds. The 165-player field features 67 Rolex Junior All-Americans and players from 28 states and six foreign countries. In the event's 28th year, the Rolex Tournament of Champions is one of 11 Majors on the AJGA schedule and is the longest running AJGA tournament.

The event is being held at the Long Cove Club, which has played host to two AJGA tournaments (the 1997 Rolex Tournament of Champions and the 1999 Canon Cup).

Carding six birdies on the day, Trimble attributed his success to his short game. On a course filled with rolling greens, Trimble needed only 25 putts in his round, sinking three putts from 30 feet.

“My putting really came through for me today,” said Trimble, who will attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in the fall. “I've been playing well recently—it just wasn't happening in tournaments. I'm thinking about myself and not the field.”

Kyle Stanley of Gig Harbor, Wash., sits in second at 67, while Jordan Cox of Redwood City, Calif., is in third after a 3-under-par 68. Robert Streb of Edmond, Okla., carded a 69 to sit in fourth. Rounding out the top five, Billy Horschel of Grant, Fla., David Yujin Chung of Fayetteville, N.C., and defending champion Jamie Lovemark of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., all recorded 1-under-par 70s.

In the Girls Division, Osborn birdied her first hole and hit 15 greens in regulation to complete her record-breaking round.

“I stayed really focused and remained patient,” Osborn said. “I didn't make my birdies the textbook way; I made them my way.”

Burlison followed suit, recording four birdies and a single bogey to also tie the course record.

“I hit the ball really well today,” said Burlison. “Things started clicking for me, and I felt confident.”

Amanda Blumenherst of Scottsdale, Ariz., is in second at 69. Tied for third at 1-under-par 70 are Kimberly Kim of Pahoa, Hawaii, Mallory Hetzel of Summerville, S.C., Jane Rah of Torrance, Calif., Kimberly Donovan of Hopkinton, Mass., and Allison Goodman of San Diego, Calif.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The largest Association of its kind, the AJGA has a junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 50 states and 30 foreign countries.

Titleist, the AJGA's National Sponsor, has been the catalyst and driving force behind the Association's success since 1989. Rolex Watch USA, which enters its third decade of support, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004.

AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. More than 200 former AJGA juniors currently play on the PGA and LPGA Tours and have compiled more than 280 wins. AJGA alumni include Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Davis Love III, Mike Weir, Charles Howell III, Jim Furyk, Dottie Pepper, Grace Park, Cristie Kerr and Beth Bauer.

Second-round tee times will run from 7:30 a.m. - 2 p.m., off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees at Long Cove Club. For more information on the Rolex Tournament of Champions, please contact Tournament Headquarters at (843) 686-0456
