Schneiter used a similar strategy to tame The Apawamis Club, leaving his driver in the bag on all but five holes. Still, it was his putter that kept his momentum going.
“My putter really saved me today,” said Schneiter, who needed just 25 putts his entire round. “I really liked the fast greens out here.”

In the Girls Division, only four players managed to break 80 – with Tincher and Smith leading the way.
Tincher fired a front-nine 42, but never lost her confidence. She rebounded by firing a 3-under-par back nine, highlighted by two birdies in her final three holes.
“I was hitting the wrong clubs and making bogeys that were holding me back.,” said Tincher, who lives just 10 minutes from The Apawamis Club. “I was hitting the ball well and didn’t get discouraged.”
Smith, who traveled across the country for a run of tournaments on the East Coast, had a rollercoaster of a round that included four birdies.
