Lewis, Pisciotta lead Boys Division after first round at the Frederica Junior Open
Clark, Kim have one stroke lead in Girls Division at Frederica Golf Club
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga., — Michael Pisciotta of Alpharetta, Ga., and Joe Lewis of Savannah, Ga., both fired 4-under-par 68 to tie for first and take a one stroke lead into the second round at the Frederica Junior Open. Also tied for first, in the Girls Division, Aliea Clark of Carlsbad, Calif., and Anna Kim of Chandler, Ariz., carded 2-under-par 70 in the first round at Frederica Golf Club.
The Frederica Junior Open is a 54-hole stroke play event conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at Frederica Golf Club. The tournament field includes 72 boys and 24 girls, ages 12-18 from 13 states. The Boys Division is playing the par-72 course at 7,154 yards and the Girls Division is playing at 6,243 yards.
This is Pisciotta’s third first-round lead this summer, putting him in a familiar place going into Wednesday’s round.
“I’m used to this situation,” Pisciotta said. “Tomorrow I just need to stay focused on my target, and make sure that I’m hitting every shot where I need to.”
In a tie for first with Pisciotta, Lewis put together four birdies throughout the round to keep him one stroke ahead of the field.
“I had solid play all around today,” Lewis said. “As long as I keep the ball in play and don’t go for anything too crazy tomorrow, I should be able to keep going.”
Michael Monroe of Franklin, Tenn., Meechai Padungsiriseth of Bradenton, Fla., and Joshua Lee of Orange Park, Fla., are all tied for third in the Boys Division, each carding a 3-under-par 69.
In the Girls Division, Clark made two birdies on the front nine to keep her 2-under-par for the day.
“I just need to get going on these greens,” Clark said. “I am excited to make some putts tomorrow.”
Also in first, Kim chipped herself out of a water hazard on No.11, to make par and keep her one-stroke ahead with Clark going into the second round.
“I have a pretty good confidence level right now,” Kim said. “I need to focus on one shot at a time and continue to play well.”
Mary Ellen Shuman of St. Simons Island, Ga., and Christine Lin of Austin, Texas, both shot 1-under-par 71 to tie for third.
