Carver finished atop the Boys Division leaderboard at Lockton Kansas City Junior
Lee wins first AJGA title at Oakwood Country Club
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jared Carver of Weston, Fla., was awarded with his first AJGA title, after carding a final round 2-over-par 74 at the Lockton Kansas City Junior. In the Girls Division, Sammi Lee of Winter Park, Fla., finished the final round at 4-over-par 76 to earn the win at Oakwood Country Club.
The Lockton Kansas City Junior was a 54-hole stroke play event conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at the Oakwood Country Club in Kansas City, Mo. The tournament field includes 72 boys and 24 girls, ages 12-18, from 20 states, Colombia, Mexico, China and Thailand. The Boys Division played the par-72 course at 6,528 yards, while the Girls Division played at 6,047 yards.
Carver was tied for first coming into the final round. Carver ended the on top at 2-under-par 214. Although Carver finished the front-nine with 4-over-par 40, he ended the back-nine with three birdies helping him earn the victory.
“I can be down at the beginning of the round, but I know I can pull it out in the long run,” Carver said.
The Weston, Fla., native explained how his putting aided his golf abilities this week.
“My putting was definitely the strongest part of the game,” Carver said. “It definitely helped me in the final round”.
Jacob Fair of Monett, Mo., finished in second place at 1-under-par 215. Finishing in third place was Chase Hanna of Leawood, Kan., and Rylee Reinertson of Gibbon, Neb., at even-par 216. Rounding out the top-five was Alvaro Ortiz of Zapopan, Mexico and Jackson Foth of Lake Quivira, Kan., at 1-over-par 217.
In the Girls Division, Lee earned her first victory in her AJGA career. Lee carded a tournament total of 7-over-par 223. The class of 2013 graduate is appreciative of the outcome with the tournament. Lee elaborated on how hard work pays off.
“Today's win really means so much to me because I've worked really hard and it's just icing on the cake for me,” Lee said.
Lee credits her solid rhythm and consistency to finishing on top of the leaderboard. Lee plans to build momentum from this win onto future AJGA events.
“It definitely builds my confidence, but I know that I need to keep working hard to place well at other AJGA events,” Lee said.
Finishing two strokes back in third place was Jordan Lippetz of Bradenton, Fla., at 9-over-par 225. Rounding out the top-three was Rosanna Lederhausen of Hinsdale, Ill., and Kari Bellville of Granger, Ind., at 15-over-par 231.
The American Junior Golf Association is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.
