Pisciotta, Pattamakijsakul win AJGA Huntsville Junior Juniors take early round leads wire-to-wire
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Michael Pisciotta of Alpharetta, Ga., fired a 6-under-par 207 tournament total to win the AJGA Huntsville Junior. Thanya Pattamakijsakul of Nonthaburi, Thailand, won the Girls Division by eight strokes after carding a 6-under-par 207.
The AJGA Huntsville Junior was a 54-hole stroke play tournament conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at The Ledges in Huntsville, Ala. The event featured 72 boys and 24 girls, ages 12-18, from 12 states and two countries. The Boys Division played the par-71 course at 6,953 yards while the Girls Division played the course at 5,990 yards.
Pisciotta led after both the first and second rounds, which he was able to do at the AJGA Junior at Steelwood presented by AT&T, but this time he kept that lead, even when the last putt dropped.
“I've never led all three rounds before, I don't even know how to explain it,” Pisciotta said. “I was getting hot with the putter and getting up-and-down from pretty much everywhere.”
Tied in second place with a 1-under-par 212 were Jacob Fair of Monett, Mo., and Tyler McDaniel of Manchester, Ky. In a tie for fourth place were Carson Jacobs of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Jared O'Kelley of Canton, Ga., who both carded an even-par 213.
Pattamakijsakul held onto the lead she built during the first two rounds to win her first AJGA title. Last week, she finished third at the Golf Pride Junior Classic.
“I'm very excited now, I've never played this good before,” Pattamakijsakul said. “I tried not to think about the score, but instead play my best and concentrate on my game.”
Finishing in second place was Janie Jackson of Huntsville, Ala., with a 2-over-par 215 tournament total, and Anna Hack of Paducah, Ky., came in third with a 4-over-par 217.
The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA provides valuable exposure for college golf scholarships, and has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 49 states and more than 40 countries.
