Ghim Captures Lead at Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Boyne Highlands
Armstrong retains position in Girls Division at Boyne Highlands Resort - Moor Course

HARBOR SPRINGS, Mich. — Doug Ghim of Arlington Heights, Ill., carded a second-round score of 6-under-par 66 to jump into the lead at 7-under-par 137 at the Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Boyne Highlands. Ashley Armstrong of Flossmoor, Ill., shot a 5-under-par 67 to stay atop the Girls Division with a tournament total of 8-under-par 136.

The Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Boyne Highlands is a 54-hole stroke play event conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at Boyne Highlands Resort — Moor Course in Harbor Springs, Mich. The tournament field includes 105 boys and 36 girls, ages 12-18 from 14 states, Canada, Colombia and Thailand. The Boys Division is playing the par-72 course at 6,832 yards and the Girls Division is playing at 6,028 yards.

Ghim started his round with a birdie on No. 1 and finished with a birdie on No. 18. He also had four others, for a total of six birdies and zero bogeys on the day.

“On No. 1, I was looking for a good start,” Ghim said. “I hit a good drive and knocked it to a couple feet, then made the putt for birdie. It made my day a lot easier than yesterday, just by having that good start. I'm happy to be breaking through this week. My goal was to play the best that I could and just put up some good numbers, and I'm happy with my progress.”

Finishing the round in second was Drew Miller of Thousand Oaks, Calif., with a tournament score of 4-under-par 140. Voramate Aussarassakorn of Bangkok, Thailand, concluded the day in third with a score of 1-under-par 143. Tied for fourth place are Brandon Barrows of Lake Orion, Mich., Blaze Hogan of Big Rapids, Mich., Joe Hooks of Commerce Twp., Mich., and Will Seger of Jasper, Ind., with scores of 1-over-par 145.

In the Girls Division, despite fighting a bout of food poisoning, Armstrong was able to card five birdies and zero bogeys on the day.

“I didn't feel great, but I think being sick helped me focus on taking one shot at a time,” Armstrong said. “My chipping and putting were consistent, and I was able to get some up-and-downs. It has been a while since I have played well, so it feels great that my hard work is paying off.”

In second place, Jessica Porvasnik of Hinckley, Ohio, carded a 1-over-par 73 to stand at even-par 144 for the tournament. Rounding out the top three was Lindsey Weaver of Scottsdale, Ariz., with a tournament total of 2-over-par 146.
