Titsworth wins outright by 14 strokes at the Cleveland Junior Open
Porvasnik comes from behind to earn the victory at Red Tail Golf Club

Avon, Ohio — Beau Titsworth of Avon Lake, Ohio won by 14 strokes to earn him his first AJGA victory at the Cleveland Junior Open. In the Girls Division, Jessica Porvasnik of Hinckley, Ohio totaled a 2-under-par 214 to win at Red Tail Golf Club.

The Cleveland Junior Open was a 54-hole stroke play event conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at Red Tail Golf Club in Avon, Ohio. The tournament field included 69 boys and 27 girls, ages 12-18 from 15 states, Canada and Thailand. The Boys Division played the par-72 course at 6,937 yards and the Girls Division played at 6,072 yards.

Titsworth carded a 10-under-par 206 to get his first AJGA win at his home course. At the awards ceremony, Titsworth gave his trophy to the Tournament committee and Red Tail Golf Club staff.

“Of course there are bigger tournaments, but this one means a lot more than those do,” Titsworth said.

Titsworth made two consecutive birdies en-route to an even-par 72 for his final round. Titsworth has finished in the top-5 the last three years of the Cleveland Junior Open. The 2012-graduate finished the tournament with a chip-in par on the No. 18 green.

Jake McBride from Hartville, Ohio and Will Seger from Jasper, Ind., tied for second with a 4-over-par 220. Finished in fourth was PJ Collier of Houston, Texas with a 5-over-par 221. Rounding out the top-5 was Mert Selamet of Dublin, Ohio and Mitchell Homb of Dixon, Ill., with a 6-over-par 222.

In the Girls Division, Porvasnik posted a 4-under-par 68 to get an eight shot victory. This is Porvasnik's second AJGA win of the year, last coming at the Junior All-Star at Stonelick Hills.

Her mentality for the final round helped lock-in the victory.

“I just tried to stay focused and not really think about what place I was,” Porvasnik said. “I just had to play the course and not worry about where my competitors were at.”

Porvasnik had five birdies and one bogey on the round. Winning the tournament wasn't the only thing special about Porvasnik's day.

“Winning is a great birthday present,” Porvasnik said. “Today was also the lowest round I've ever had.”

Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ontario, Mika Liu of Bradenton, Fla., and Jennifer Peng of San Diego, Calif., all tied for second with a 6-over-par 222.
