Weather Postpones First Round of AJGA
Junior at Centennial
Play to resume at 7 a.m. on Wednesday,
Ore. – Inclement
weather during the first round of the AJGA Junior at Centennial caused play to
be postponed until Wednesday, August 18 at 7 a.m.
Conducted by the
American Junior Golf Association, the AJGA Junior at Centennial is an 18-hole
stroke-play event held at Centennial Golf Club. The field features 82 boys
and 48 girls, ages 12-18, from 11 states and Canada, with the host state being
represented by eight participants. The Boys Division plays the par-72 course
from 7,164 yards and the Girls Division plays from 6,086 yards.
“After reviewing the weather conditions
surrounding the golf course, we ultimately decided the best option was to postpone
play to protect the safety of all players, parents, staff and volunteers,”
Tournament Director Lauren Shelly said.
Play will resume
Wednesday morning at 7 a.m. The second round of play has been altered to a noon
shotgun for all tournament players.
Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the
overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn
college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA provides
valuable exposure for college golf scholarships, and has an annual junior
membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers
from 49 states and 30 countries. To ensure scholarship opportunities for all
junior golfers who have the skill, the AJGA created the Achieving Competitive
Excellence (ACE) Grant program to provide financial assistance to young players
in need. Titleist,
the AJGA’s National Sponsor, has been the catalyst and driving force behind the
Association’s success since 1989. Rolex Watch USA, which is in its third decade
of AJGA support, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004. In 2007, after
12 years of support, Polo Ralph Lauren became the AJGA’s second Premier
Partner. AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur,
collegiate and professional golf. Former AJGA juniors have compiled more than
400 victories on the PGA and LPGA Tours. AJGA alumni include Tiger Woods, Phil
Mickelson, Stewart Cink, Cristie Kerr, Paula Creamer and Morgan Pressel.

The Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program provides financial assistance to junior golfers who wish to play in AJGA events. Its goal is to give top-flight golf opportunities to young golfers regardless of financial resources. This program helps to fulfill the AJGA’s mission of developing young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.
What is Leadership Links?
Leadership Links is a new program whereby the AJGA is able to further its mission to help develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age. This program gives juniors all the tools necessary to donate their time, talent and resources to local charities and the AJGA youth development programs.
