Hubbard Leads Boys Division at AccuSport Championship hosted by Webb Simpson
Unson takes six-shot lead in Girls Division at Tanglewood Park

CLEMMONS, N.C. — Richard Hubbard of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., carded a 3-under-par 67 on Tuesday to lead the Boys Division after the first round of the AccuSport Championship hosted by Webb Simpson. Leading in the Girls Division is Andrea Unson of Murrieta, Calif., at 3-under-par 67.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the AccuSport Championship hosted by Webb Simpson is a 54-hole stroke play event held at Tanglewood Park — Championship Course. The field features 70 boys and 20 girls, ages 12-18, from 16 states, Italy and South Africa. The par-70 course is playing at 6,632 yards in the Boys Division and 5,886 yards in the Girls Division.

After two birdies on the front nine, Hubbard finished his round strong with back-to-back birdies.

“I finally hit it really well and made a lot of putts,” Hubbard said. “I made everything except for one 4-footer for bogey, but besides that I putted great.”

Two shots behind Hubbard, tied for second at 1-under-par 69, are Jason Roets of Eikenhof, South Africa, Chad Cox of Charlotte, N.C., Billy Kennerly of Alpharetta, Ga., Max Van Dresser of Alpharetta, Ga., and Blake Stasiunas of Leander, Texas.

Unson's putting was on fire as she piled up eight birdies on the day to take a six-shot lead.

“My putting was really great,” Unson said. “They just kept going in. The hard distances just rolled in too so I was really happy.”

Chantakan Chanpalangsri of Boca Raton, Fla., is in second at 3-over-par 73, and Alexandra Rossi of Austin, Texas, is in third at 4-over-par 74.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA provides valuable exposure for college golf scholarships, and has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 49 states and 30 countries. To ensure scholarship opportunities for all junior golfers who have the skill, the AJGA created the Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program to provide financial assistance to young players in need.

Titleist, the AJGA's National Sponsor, has been the catalyst and driving force behind the Association's success since 1989. Rolex Watch USA, which is in its third decade of AJGA support, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004. In 2007, after 12 years of support, Polo Ralph Lauren became the AJGA's second Premier Partner.

AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. Former AJGA juniors have compiled more than 400 victories on the PGA and LPGA Tours. AJGA alumni include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Stewart Cink, Cristie Kerr, Paula Creamer and Morgan Pressel.

Second round tee times for the AccuSport Championship hosted by Webb Simpson will be from 7 - 10:40 a.m. off the No. 1 tee on Wednesday, August 18. For more information, please contact Tournament Director Rachel Graves at (770) 861-0519.
