Consistent Day Gives Kelly a Two-Shot Lead at CorseMax/Philadelphia Runner Junior
Ocampo's 1-under-par 70 leads Girls Division at White Manor Country Club

MALVERN, Penn. — Sean Kelly of Staten Island, N.Y., led the way in the Boys Division, shooting an even-par 71. Christina Ocampo of Delray Beach, Fla., carded a 1-under-par 70, the lowest score of any player in the field.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the CorseMax/Philadelphia Runner Junior is being held at White Manor Country Club in Malvern, Penn. The field features 75 boys and 24 girls, ages 12-18, from 16 states. The par-71 course is playing at 6,948 yards for the Boys Division and 6,110 yards for the Girls Division.

Kelly felt like his best shot of the day came on No. 16, which helped him close out his round strong.

“I pushed my drive on No. 16 right about 170 yards which cut right under the trees,” Kelly said. “I was excited that I was able to save par there. Overall, I had a consistent round and made a lot of short putts.”

In the Boys Division, Ben Cooley of Rydal, Pa., Chris Houston of Gilford, N.H., and Austin Nowak of Lancaster, N.Y., are in second with 2-over-par 73. Sam Stewart of Reisterstown, Md., Patrick O'Leary of Milton, Mass., Ted Brennan of Newtown Square, Pa., and Shane Eichenlaub of New Castle, Pa., are tied for fifth with scores of 3-over-par 74.

Ocampo had a strong day, taking 24 putts and hitting a lot of fairways.

“I was saving a lot of putts because of my short game,” Ocampo said. “I struggled with my iron game, so that definitely helped me out.”

Aurora Kim of Boothwyn, Pa., lies one shot back from the lead with an even-par 71. In third place is Samantha Wagner of Clermont, Fla., who carded a 2-over-par 73.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA provides valuable exposure for college golf scholarships, and has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 49 states and 30 countries. To ensure scholarship opportunities for all junior golfers who have the skill, the AJGA created the Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program to provide financial assistance to young players in need.

Titleist, the AJGA's National Sponsor, has been the catalyst and driving force behind the Association's success since 1989. Rolex Watch USA, which is in its third decade of AJGA support, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004. In 2007, after 12 years of support, Polo Ralph Lauren became the AJGA's second Premier Partner.

AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. Former AJGA juniors have compiled more than 400 victories on the PGA and LPGA Tours. AJGA alumni include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Stewart Cink, Cristie Kerr, Paula Creamer and Morgan Pressel.

Wednesday's second-round tee times for the CorseMax/Philadelphia Runner Junior will run from 7 a.m. — 12:20 p.m. off the No. 1 tee at White Manor Country Club. For more information, please call Tournament Director Lindsay Koth at (678) 617-2417.
