Levitt Cards 4-under-par to Take Lead at Winn Grips Heather Farr Classic hosted by Longbow Golf Club
Arizona native Weaver is on top in the Girls Division

MESA, Ariz. - Andrew Levitt of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., carded a 4-under-par 67 to take the early lead after the first round of the Winn Grips Heather Farr Classic hosted by Longbow Golf Club. Lindsey Weaver of Scottsdale, Ariz., is on top in the Girls Division after bringing in a 3-under-par 68.

The 12th-annual Winn Grips Heather Farr Classic hosted by Longbow Golf Club is a 54-hole stoke play event being held at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz. The 144-player field features 15 Rolex Junior All-Americans and 26 college signees. In all, 13 states are represented along with Switzerland, Canada and Mexico. The Boys Division is playing the par-71 course at 6,999 yards, while the Girls Division yardage is set at 6,150.

Levitt, a high school sophomore, is currently ranked No. 28 in the Polo Golf Rankings. After winning two AJGA Open events in 2009, he is off to a strong start in 2010, leading the field by two strokes. He credited his accurate tee shots and a string of birdies on the back nine to a successful round.

“Everything was working well for me today,” Levitt said. “I was even through 12 holes and then something just clicked. I made three putts over 15 feet for birdies and got four birdies in my last six holes.”

Jeffrey Kang of Fullerton, Calif., sits behind Levitt in second place after carding a 2-under-par 69. A four-way tie for third leaves California natives Ki Taek Lee of La Quinta, Jeff Wibawa of Encino, Matthew Negri of El Cajon, and Jason Chen of Brea, three strokes back going into Saturday's second round.

In the Girls Division, Weaver's accuracy in the fairways set her up for nailing 17 greens. With four birdies on the day, the 2009 Rolex Junior All-American leads the seasoned girl's field by two strokes.

“My irons worked well for me today,” Weaver said. “I ended the day with a 15-foot birdie putt on No. 18. I think I was just really focused out there, thinking shot by shot instead of just the outcome.”

A three-way tie for second includes sixth-ranked Alison Lee of Valencia, Calif., 44th-ranked Beverly Vatananugulkit of Cerritos, Calif., and 2008 champion Kyung Kim of Chandler, Ariz.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA provides valuable exposure for college golf scholarships, and has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 49 states and 30 countries. To ensure scholarship opportunities for all junior golfers who have the skill, the AJGA created the Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program to provide financial assistance to young players in need.

Titleist, the AJGA's National Sponsor, has been the catalyst and driving force behind the Association's success since 1989. Rolex Watch USA, which is in its third decade of AJGA support, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004. In 2007, after 12 years of support, Polo Ralph Lauren became the AJGA's second Premier Partner.

AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. Former AJGA juniors have compiled more than 400 victories on the PGA and LPGA Tours. AJGA alumni include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Stewart Cink, Cristie Kerr, Paula Creamer and Morgan Pressel.

The second round of the Winn Grips Heather Farr Classic hosted by Longbow Golf Club will tee off at Longbow Golf Club's Nos. 1 and 10 tees from 7 a.m. — 8:39 a.m., with a second wave from 11:30 a.m. — 1:09 p.m. For more information on the event, please contact Tournament Headquarters at (480) 807-5400.
