MEADOR MEDALS, TAKES K12 QUALIFIER SERIES EVENT BY ONE STROKE
Yun grabs Girls Division medal at 2-over-par 74 at TimberCreek

DAPHNE, Ala. — Robert Meador III of Miami Lakes, Fla., carded five birdies Sunday en route to a 3-under-par 69 to medal in the Boys Division of the K12 Qualifier Series for the AJGA Junior at Steelwood presented by AT&T. For the Girls Division, Yingzhou Yun of Hilton Head Island, S.C., shot a 2-over-par 74 to lead the field by two strokes and take medalist honors.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the K¹² Qualifier for the AJGA Junior at Steelwood presented by AT&T was an 18-hole stroke play event held at TimberCreek Golf Club. The qualifier field featured 50 boys and 11 girls, ages 12-18, from 13 states. The Boys Division played the par-72 layout at 6,901 yards, while the Girls Division played the course at 5,954 yards. K¹² Qualifiers give juniors an opportunity to "play their way in" to coinciding AJGA Open tournaments or earn a Tournament Exemption or Performance Star for a future event. The K¹² Qualifier Series offers opportunities for AJGA juniors at approximately 50 AJGA Open events.

Meador fired 34-35 on the front and back nines, respectively, while recording only two bogeys on the day. This was the 17-year-old's first K12 Qualifier Series victory, an achievement he attributed to hours spent working on his game.

“I was striking the ball really well today, which allowed me to hit more greens and keep my shots from spraying one way or the other,” Meador said. “That's something I've been working on with my coach, so it's exciting to feel the work paying off.”

Qualifying, but opting to take an AJGA Tournament Exemption in lieu of playing in this week's event, were Phillip Boljanovich of Naples, Fla., Marcus Plunkett of St. Augustine, Fla., Cole Graham of Birmingham, Ala., Jordan Cardwell of Mandeville, La., and Andrew Peeler of Hattiesburg, Miss.

Joining Meador in the tournament will be Theodore Wolfes of St. Simons Island, Ga., Mason Seaborn of Montrose, Ala., Zach Hartman of St. Simons Island, Ga., Major Lee of Montgomery, Ala., Ross Davis of Baton Rouge, La., Evan Berlin of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Bailey Kimmitt of Fairhope, Ala., Paul Broussard of Lake Charles, La., Judson Keel of Houston, and Frank McGough of Pike Road, Ala.

Yun, making her AJGA debut, carded a pair of birdies on both the front and back nines, which she credited to solid approach shots that left her in position to take the lead.

“The best part of my day was my luck because even though I hit my normal shots, they always ended up very close to the hole,” Yun said. “I know it's really hard to win an event with the AJGA so I am really excited about my round.”

Ashleigh Ryals of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Alexandra White of Haymarket, Va., both fell within the cut line at 4-over-par 76, but chose to take an exemption instead of playing in the AJGA Junior at Steelwood presented by AT&T. Rounding out the tournament field will be Caroline Beebe of Daphne, Ala., and Elise Bradley of Mandeville, La.
