PLATT, LIM MEDAL AT EL PRADO GOLF COURSE
Both take AJGA Tournament Exemption in lieu of playing at Tijeras Creek event

CHINO, Calif. β€” Niall Platt of Santa Barbara, Calif., earned Boys Division medalist honors at the qualifier for the CORE Realty Holdings Junior presented by TomatoBank after carding a 4-under-par 68 at El Prado Golf Course β€” Chino Creek Course. Tiffany Lim of San Jose, Calif., shot an even-par 72 to earn top honors for the Girls Division.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the AJGA Qualifier for the CORE Realty Holdings Junior presented by TomatoBank was held at the El Prado Golf Course's Chino Creek Course. The tournament field consisted of 76 boys and 20 girls, ages 12-18, from 7 states, China and Taiwan. Eighty -eight hailed from the home state of California. The Boys Division played the par-72 layout at 6,751 yards, while the Girls Division is played at 5,930 yards.

Although never seeing the course before, Platt used his short game to his advantage, tallying four birdies on the day.

β€œIt wasn't my best ball striking day but I only had 28 putts the entire 18 holes,” said Platt. β€œI just went out there and did my best.”

The 12 qualifiers that filled the Boys Division were Alex Bungert of Orange, Calif., Jae Kang of Irvine, Calif., Caleb Fuller of Charlotte, N.C., Michael Weaver of Fresno, Calif., Robbie Mamo of Apple Valley, Calif., Jake Stonich of Irvine, Colt Knedler of Beverly Hills, Calif., Anthony Kim of Cerritos, Calif., Michael Moorhead of Newport Beach, Calif., Andong Pan of Shanghai, China, Joshua Park of Diamond Bar, Calif., and Jeff Moeser of Santa Ana, Calif., who qualified via sudden-death playoff.

Also qualifying but opting to take a Tournament Exemption lieu of playing in this week's event were Seiji Liu of Bradenton, Fla., Jake Katz of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Marco Fortades of Glendale, Calif., Preston Valder of Yorba Linda, Calif., Gregory Petchakan of Encino, Calif., Richard Sunghee Jeong of Arcadia, Calif., and Jonathan Rego of San Dimas, Calif.

For the Girls Division, Lim medaled but opted not to play in this week's event in order to take an AJGA Tournament Exemption. She carded two birdies, including one on the par-3 No. 16.

β€œI played simple golf, trying to hit greens and fairways,” Lim said. β€œI just wanted to play my own game, nothing fancy.”

The three qualifiers that filled the Girls Division were Amelia Ek of Cypress, Calif., Monica Villarreal of Yorba Linda, and Apisara Chulya of Bangkok, Thailand.
