PECK, KIM SET NEW COURSE RECORD AT FOOTJOY INVITATIONAL
Both sit at 4-under-par 66 at Sedgefield Country Club

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Cameron Peck of Olympia, Wash., and Chan Kim of Chandler, Ariz., sit tied atop the leaderboard after the first round of the FootJoy Invitational at 4-under-par 66. In doing so, both claim the right to Sedgefield Country Club’s course record, previously set at 67.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the seventh annual FootJoy Invitational is a 72-hole stroke play event being held at Sedgefield Country Club. The 99-player field features golfers from 23 states and seven foreign countries. The par-70 course is being played at 7,065 yards. Past champions of this event include Seung-Su Han, Brian Harman, Daniel Woltman, Andrew Yun and Peter Uihlein.

Peck started his first round positively on the front nine, by making birdies on Nos. 4 and 6 and an eagle on No. 5.

“I started out even on the first three holes,” Peck said. “All of a sudden, I was 4-under after playing No. 6 and that gave me a lot of confidence.”

Peck played two rounds of golf Monday, participating in both the practice round and the Junior-Am. He said he was never concerned about the heat or the potential of being tired for the first round.

“If anything, playing two rounds yesterday helped my game today,” Peck said.

Kim’s round, which included four birdies and one eagle, was keyed by consistent ball-striking.

“I hit a lot of fairways today and that helped to make up for some missed putts,” Kim said. “It feels good to lead after the first round, especially at an invitational. There are a lot of great golfers here.”

Both players look to defend their top positions at Wednesday’s second round as there are four competitors that sit one stroke back. Tied for third at 3-under-par 67 are James Kwon of Houston, Jack Schultz of Whitefish Bay, Wis., Rak Cho of Brea, Calif., and Tommy Chung Hao Mou of Bradenton, Fla.

Schultz’s round of 67 was highlighted by a double eagle. He holed out from 185 yards with a 6-iron on the par-5 No. 15.
