BRADSHAW LEADS BOYS DIVISION IN JOHN DEERE CLASSIC JUNIOR ALL-STAR

Chun sits atop leaderboard at 1-under -par 71 in Girls Division at Glynns Creek Golf Course

LONG GROVE, Iowa —  Thomas Bradshaw of Columbia, S.C., is in the lead of the Boys Division after a 5-under-par 67 in round one of the John Deere Classic Junior All-Star Wednesday at Glynns Creek Golf Course. Michele Chun of Ontario, Calif., sits atop the Girls Division leaderboard at 1-under-par 71. Round-one was postponed Tuesday due to inclement weather and rescheduled for Wednesday as an 18-hole shotgun event.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the John Deere Classic Junior All-Star is being held at Glynns Creek Golf Course. The tournament field consists of 82 boys and 13 girls from 25 states and one foreign country. The Boys Division is playing the course at 6,789 yards, while the Girls Division is playing at 5,748 yards.

Bradshaw was comfortable with his play and felt he hit his irons well, especially on his approach shots. After struggling mid-way through the round with his putting, Bradshaw was able to turn it around and finish strong, carding birdies on his last three holes.

“Tomorrow I want to make as many birdies as I can,” Bradshaw said. “I want to keep playing like I am capable of playing.”

Alexander Forss of Temecula, Calif., sits in second after the first round at 4-under-par 68. Daniel Stringfellow of Roselle, Ill., Yuki Kato of Las Vegas, Richard Werenski of South Hadley, Mass., Korey Ward of West Chester, Ohio, and Motin Yeung of Orlando, are tied in third at 3-under-par 69.

In the Girls Division, Chun, who won the Lake Havasu Junior All-Star in June, started slowly, mostly due to poor ball striking. Chun made the proper adjustments to her swing and began providing herself with opportunities to score. Chun said she began to focus on her swing and the rest just fell into place.

“I want to stick to my routine tomorrow,” Chun said. “I need to focus on the process of my swing and just keep going.”

In the Girls Division, Casey Grice of College Station, Texas sits in second after round one at 1-over-par 73. Ember Schuldt of Sterling, Ill., sits in third at 2-over-par 74 after round one.
