CHUN WINS SUDDEN-DEATH PLAYOFF FOR WIN AT FLINT ELKS LODGE 222 GOLF CLUB
Frasier wins Girls Division by 7-stroke margin

FLINT, Mich., - After the final round of the Randy Wise Junior Open Jae Han Chun of Ansung-City, South Korea won the Boys Division firing a 4-under-par 212. Danielle Frasier of Encinitas, Calif., won the Girls Division by recording a 2-under-par 214.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Randy Wise Junior Open was a 54-hole stroke play event held at Flint Elks 222 Lodge Golf Club. The 99-player field featured players from 20 states, Canada and South Korea. The course played at 6,922 yards for the Boys Division and 6,093 yards in the Girls Division.

Chun said after his win last week at the Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Boyne Highlands, he tried to stay humble and keep the patience he used to win in a similar sudden-death playoff. Chun said his persistence showed when he birdied Nos. 1, 3, 4, 7 and 9 for a 3-under-par 33 on the front nine but lost it a little in the end.

“I got behind on No. 15, after I missed a chip,” Chun said. “I didn't give up I just had to tell myself, ‘I'm still in this'.”

After completing the round, Chun and Zeyu He of Bradenton, Fla., were tied after shooting final rounds of 2-under-par 70 and even-par 72, respectively. In the sudden-death playoff, each parred No. 18, twice. On the par-4 thirteenth, Chun rolled in the birdie putt to seal the win.

Mark Mumford of Rye, N.Y., finished third carding a 2-under-par 214. Nicholas Carbary of Kalamazoo, Mich., James Back of Brea, Calif., Colin Van Es of Granger, Ind., and Michael Murray of Bradenton, Fla., all placed fourth posting 1-over-par 217 tournament totals.

In the Girls Division, Frasier said her birdie on No. 2, where she chipped in, helped get her started.

“I played solid,” Frasier said. “That's all I wanted.”

With additional birdies on Nos. 5 and 10 the fourteen-year-old said this win means more to her than her win in Seattle last year.

“This means I can not only come from behind to win,” Frasier said. “But stay calm and keep the lead.”

Shannon Warner of Livonia, Mich., finished in second carding a 5-over-par 221 tournament total. Finishing in third is Milena Savich of Carmel, Ind., posting a 7-over-par 223 tournament total.
