LONG HOLDS LEAD AFTER ROUND TWO AT HOUCHENS INDUSTRIES JUNIOR OPEN
Sanchez leads Girls Division by five strokes at The Club at Olde Stone

ALVATON, Ky. — Jace Long of Dixon, Mo., fired a 3-over-par 75 Wednesday to hold onto his lead in the Boys Division after the second-round of the Houchens Industries Junior Open with a 1-over-par 145 two-day total. Daffodil Sanchez of Mesa, Ariz., leads the Girls Division after shooting her second consecutive 4-over-par 76 for a 10-over-par 152 two-day total at The Club at Olde Stone.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Houchens Industries Junior Open was held at The Club at Olde Stone. The tournament field consists of 73 boys and 24 girls from 18 states. The Boys Division is playing the course at 6,787 yards and the Girls Division is playing at 5,799 yards.

After carding a 2-under-par 70 during Tuesday's first-round, Long knew all he had to do was keep it in the fairway and avoid three-putts to stay in good position. Long continued his steady play carding nines of 38 and 37 respectively. Long feels good about his game and is looking forward to the final round.

“I struggled a little on the greens today and didn't hit as many fairways, but I'm confident,” Long said. “I'm going to work on my putting and get it going and hopefully have another good round tomorrow.”

Other leaders in the Boys Division include Joe David of Madison, Tenn., who sits one back at 2-over-par 146. Cory Siegfried of Wayne, Pa., and Michael Cress of Dublin, Ohio, are tied for third at 3-over-par 147. Paul Hammerschmidt of Westerville, Ohio, Cameron Carrico of Owensboro, Ky., and Brian Steele of Springfield, Mo., are tied for fifth with 4-over-par 148s.

In the Girls Division, Sanchez was able to rebound from a triple-bogey on No. 4 to birdie or par 12 of the last 13 holes. Sanchez said she is happy with her game this week and is looking to play it one shot at a time and try to be optimistic.

“My motto is to build a bridge and get over it,” Sanchez said. “That's what I did. I just kept trying to hit fairways and greens.”

Aimee Neff of Carmel Ind., is in second for the Girls Division at 13-over-par 157 through two rounds. Emma Talley of Princeton, Ky., is in third with a two day total of 14-over-par 158.
