MacDOUGALL MEDALS AT SRIXON
QUALIFIER SERIES WITH 3-UNDER-PAR
Boberg takes top spot in
Girls Division at Kitsap Golf & Country Club
BREMERTON, Wash. – Zach MacDougall of Coquitlam, British
Columbia medaled with a 3-under-par 68 in Saturday’s Srixon Qualifier Series at
Kitsap Golf & Country Club to qualify for the Pacific Northwest
International Junior presented by Jeff Troesch, beginning Tuesay at Trophy Lake
Golf & Casting. In the Girls
Division, Maggie Boberg of Littleton, Colo., finished at 9-over-par 80 to claim her
spot in the championship tournament.
Conducted by the
American Junior Golf Association, the Srixon Qualifier for the Pacific
Northwest International Junior presented by Jeff Troesch was an 18-hole stroke
play event featuring 41 boys and 8 girls. Included in the 49-player field were
19 players from Washington and 16 from California. The Boys Division played
from tees set at 6,216 yards and the Girls Division played from tees set 5,798
yards.
MacDougall carded
six birdies on the round, and credits his performance on leaving his driver in
his bag.
“My driver gets
me into trouble,” MacDougall said. “I hear the Trophy course is a little
longer, so I plan on working with my driver before the tournament.”
Other qualifiers
included Jacob Ready of Meridian, Idaho, with a score of 71, Adrian Guy of
Pasadena, Calif., and Adam Kolojejchick-Kotch of Boise, Idaho, both at 72,
Tyler Kato of Seattle, Wash., at 73, and Brian Lee of University Place, Wash.,
Stefan Richardson of Renton, Wash., Colton Knedler of Honolulu, Hawaii, and
Chris Johnson of Nordland, Wash., all at 75.
Henry Park of
Wakikoloa, Hawaii, Reid Martin of Mukilteo, Wash., William Holdridge of Bellingham, Wash., and Ryan Knapp of Costa Mesa, Calif., all qualified for the Pacific Northwest
International Junior presented by Jeff Troesch, but chose to receive one
Tournament Exemption in lieu of entering the championship field at Trophy Lake
Golf & Casting.
In the Girls
Division, Boberg’s straight drives on the narrow Kitsap Golf & Country Club
gave her the one-stroke lead she needed to medal and qualify for the
tournament.
“I really turned
it on for Nos. 10 & 11 to finish out my round,” Boberg said. “Hopefully I
can keep it up at Trophy Lake.”
Also qualifying
in the Girls Division were Michelle Yang of Los Angeles, Calif., at 81, and Kristin Tan of Seattle, Wash., at 84.
Sophie Elstrott of
Eugene, Ore., qualified for the championship, but
chose not to play. Due to the insufficient number Girls entries in the Srixon
Qualifier, Elstrott will receive one Performance Star instead of one Tournament
Exemption.
