CROMIE WINS PLAYOFF FOR VICTORY AT JUNIOR ALL-STAR AT JACKSONVILLE
Chung comes from behind to win at Paradise Point - Gold Course

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — Michael Cromie of Cary, N.C., two-putted to victory on No. 18 in a playoff against John Varol of Weddington, N.C., to grab the Junior All-Star at Jacksonville title. Karen Chung of Livingston, N.J., shot a final round 1-over-par 73 to gain her first AJGA victory.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Junior All-Star at Jacksonville was a 54-hole stroke play event held at Paradise Point — Gold Course. The 82-player field featured players from 20 states and Canada. The course was played at 6,885 yards in the Boys Division and 6,021 yards in the Girls Division.

Cromie thought he had a two-stroke lead as he walked down No. 18, he said. Ten minutes later he was driven back to No. 18 tee for a playoff. After another solid drive and a safe iron shot, Cromie made par to seize his first AJGA victory.

“It's pretty cool. I'm extremely happy right now,” Cromie said. “My long game took the nerves away today. It was steady all day. Other than my birdie putt on No. 14, I wasn't really nervous out there.”

Cromie played bogey-free golf during the final round and hit 16 greens en route to a 3-under-par 69. He finished the tournament with a 7-under-par 209.

John Varol of Weddington, N.C., finished second after a 4-under-par 68 in the final round. Austin Cody of North Charleston, S.C., finished third, two strokes back at 5-under-par 211. Jordan Spieth of Dallas, carded a final round 3-under-par 69 to finish fourth. Blake Olson of Pensacola, Fla., came in fifth with a tournament total of 3-under-par 213.

In the Girls Division, 12-year-old Chung erased a five-stroke deficit in her first seven holes to tie Shannon Pak of Kenner, La. The lead changed hands numerous times until Chung held onto it from No. 16 to finish with a tournament total of 228.

“It feels really good to win,” Chung said. “I was just trying my best.”

Pak finished second in the Girls Division with a tournament total of 231. Sarah Almond rounded out the top three with a 232.
