SHINDLER SHOOTS EVEN-PAR 71 TO WIN FIDELITY INVESTMENTS STARS OF TEXAS JUNIOR
Future Longhorn Fish wins Girls Division by two strokes

AUSTIN, Texas — Conrad Shindler of Coppell, Texas, shot a final-round 71 for a three-day total of 2-under-par 211 to win the Boys Division at the Fidelity Investments Stars of Texas Junior on Friday. In the Girls Division, Shannon Fish of Spring, Texas, held off Brittany Tallman of Issaquah, Wash., to win by two shots.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Fidelity Investments Stars of Texas Junior was held at The University of Texas Golf Club. The par-71 course was set up at 6,907 yards for the Boys Division and 5,923 yards for the Girls Division. The tournament field consisted of 78 boys and 25 girls, ages 12-18, representing 11 states and Mexico, including 83 Texas residents.

Shindler played consistently on the front nine, recording seven pars, shooting a 2-over-par 37. Shindler birdied the first hole on the back nine. He finished strong, carding birdies on four of the final five holes to shoot a 2-under-par 34 on the back nine for a final-round score of 71. Shindler, who won the Smithfield Junior Championship earlier in the summer, was happy to win for the second time.

“I feel very fortunate and lucky to be able to play on this stage,” Shindler said. “To win for the second time this summer, especially against a field like this, is unbelieveable.”

Cody Gribble of Dallas, fired a final-round 72 to shoot a three-day total of 2-over-par 215 to finish in second place. Austin native Scott Roudebush finished the tournament tied for third after firing the low round of the day with a 4-under-par 67. Roudebush finished the tournament with a 3-over-par 216. Coy Breen of San Antonio joined Roudebush in third place after shooting a final-round score of 71. Brian Scherer of Midland, Texas, finished in fifth place after shooting a 68 in the final round and finishing with a tournament total of 4-over-par 217.

Fish shot a front-nine score of 8-over-par 43, but improved her play on the back side. Fish recorded her first and only birdie of the day on the 465-yard, par-5 14th hole. Fish would make pars the rest of the way to shoot an even-par 36 on the back nine for a final-round score of 79. Fish finished the tournament with a three-day total of 12-over-par 225. Fish said that it felt great to win, especially after a summer where she felt her golf game has not been up to par.

“It feels great to win and it really boosts my confidence,” Fish said. “This has been a rough summer, but I know that playing this tough golf course over the next four years will make me a better player.

Tallman finished the event in second place, after shooting a final-round 73 and a three-day total of 227. Sarah Zwartynski of Allen, Texas, shot 77 in the final round and finished the tournament with a three-day total of 228 and came in third place, three shots behind Fish.
