HABOIAN FIRES 4-UNDER-PAR 68 TO MEDAL IN SRIXON QUALIFIER SERIES
Warner claims Girls Division medalist honors by six strokes

GRAND BLANC, Mich. — Two Michigan natives, Chris Haboian of Bloomfield Hills, and Shannon Warner of Livonia, each took medalist honors in the Srixon Qualifier Series for the Buick Junior Open presented by Golfweek Monday at Flint Elks Lodge 222 Golf Club in Grand Blanc, Mich. Haboian bested the Boys Division by a stroke, while Warner tallied a 1-under-par 71 to top the Girls Division.

The Srixon Qualifier Series for the Buick Junior Open presented by Golfweek was an 18-hole qualifier presented by the American Junior Golf Association at Flint Elks Lodge 222 Golf Club in Grand Blanc, Mich. The 100-player field boasted 84 boys and 16 girls from 10 states, Canada and China.

On the front nine, Haboian birdied five holes to give him a 5-under-par 31. He then birdied two more holes on the back nine. Haboian finished the day with a 4-under-par 68 to qualify for the Buick Junior Open presented by Golfweek.

“This was my first tournament round of the year,” Haboian said. “My short game was great today. I pitched in on No. 7 and had a 50-foot putt on No. 9. This is a great confidence booster for the rest of the week.”

Qualifying in the Boys Division from Michigan were Travis Peitz of Fenton, Matthew Domagalski of Okemos, Nicholas Marshall of Grand Ledge, Wesley Gates of Novi, Michael Lewis of Bloomfield, and Zachary Kozuchowski of Fraser. Also qualifying were Jordan Lesansky of Lesalle, Ontario, Curtis Carlson of East Gull Lake, Minn., and Kane Volsky of Cleveland.

In the Girls Division, Warner birdied twice on the front nine and once on the back nine en route to claiming her first Srixon Qualifier Series medalist honor. She finished the day by posting a 1-under-par 71 on a course that ran 5,999 yards in the Girls Division.

“Overall today I played well,” Warner said. “I struck the ball well and my putting was good. I only had one bad hole out there today.”

Warner has opted out of this week's tournament due to prior commitments.

Other qualifiers in the Girls Division for the Buick Junior Open presented by Golfweek were Amy Roberts of Toronto, Heather Grant of La Grange, Ill., Breanna Patz Plain Field, Ind., and Jacqueline Schram of White Lake, Mich.
