UIHLEIN WINS BY ONE STROKE AT AJGA CRAIG RANCH JUNIOR
Karle goes wire-to-wire with 14-stroke victory

MCKINNEY, Texas - The 2005 Rolex Junior Player of the Year, Peter Uihlein of Bradenton, Fla., made par on the last hole to win the AJGA Craig Ranch Junior, his first American Junior Golf Association victory of 2006. In the Girls Division, Taylore Karle of Scottsdale, Ariz., extended her lead from 10 to 14 strokes to clinch her fifth AJGA championship win.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the AJGA Craig Ranch Junior was held at the Tournament Players Club at Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas. The tournament field consisted of 51 boys and 21 girls from 17 states, Canada, Chile and China. There were 28 residents from the state of Texas. The field also included 17 Rolex Junior All-Americans, including four first-team All-American boys.

Uihlein finished at 9-under-par placing him ahead of fellow Rolex Junior All-Americans Philip Francis of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Kyle Stanley of Gig Harbor, Wash. With his win Sunday, Uihlein has set his standards high for the rest of the season.

“I want to be the 2006 Rolex Junior Player of the year,” said Uihlein, “and I want to win every tournament.”

Francis finished in second with a tournament total of 208 and Stanley placed third with a tournament total of 212. Tied for fourth were Darren Wallace of Langley, British Columbia and Arnond Vongvanij of Bradenton, Fla., each with a tournament total of 216.

Karle put together a consistent round of 72 after shooting 6-under-par in windy conditions the first two rounds on Saturday. With much calmer weather Sunday, Karle hit 13 fairways and 15 greens in the final round and had one birdie and one bogey to finish the tournament at 6-under-par.

“The course played totally different than in the practice rounds,” said Karle. “I hit most of the same shots as yesterday but the putts just didn't fall.”

Calle Nielson of Nashville, Tenn., shot a total of 224. Lila Barton of Dallas, Texas, was just one stroke behind Nielson, shooting a final round of 77 to finish at 225 for the event.
