GRAND BLANC'S MACK TIED FOR LEAD AFTER FIRST ROUND
Mack and Schneider shoot 4-under-par 68s

Grand Blanc, Mich. — Willie Mack III of Grand Blanc, Mich., and Brad Schneider of Valrico, Fla., are tied for first in the Boys Division of the Buick Junior Open presented by Golfweek after firing 4-under-par 68s during the first round. Jennifer Hong of Windermere, Fla., leads the Girls Division with a 2-under-par 70.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Buick Junior Open presented by Golfweek is a 54-hole stroke play event and is being held at the Flint Elks Lodge 222 Golf Club. The tournament features 81 boys and 21 girls, ages 12-18, from 15 states, Canada and Chile.

Mack's round of 68 included four birdies and a 20-foot putt for eagle on the par-5 hole No. 4.

“I did okay today, but I had a few errors and could have shot a little better,” Mack said. “Overall I think I did well though.”

Schneider made numerous key putts that helped him attain seven birdies throughout his round.

“I made a lot of putts and I had a lot birdies,” Schneider said. “I had one three-putt on hole No. 3 that shouldn't have happened, but overall it was a good round.”

After carding 2-under-par 70s, Brandon Lemons of Portage, Mich., and Ryan Franks of Quincy, Ill., are currently positioned in third place. Tied for fifth place with 1-under-par 71s are Andrew Frame of Manteno, Ill., Mitchell Gregson of Waterloo, Ill., Nicholas Marshall of Grand Ledge, Mich., and Alberto Belan of Las Condes-Santiago, Chile.

Hong's steady round featured four birdies and 12 pars, with 35s on both the front and back side. Hong only needed 29 putts to put herself in the lead by one stroke.

“I was pretty solid all day,” Hong said. “I hit fairways, hit greens and had a lot of good putts. Now I am just going to try to do the same thing the next two days.”

Standing alone in second place is Jessica Hauser of Hartland, Wis., with a 1-under-par 71. Tied for third place with 2-over-par 74s are defending champion Dolores White of Lakeland, Fla., and Julia Potter of Granger, Ind.
