THREE BOYS EARN MEDALS IN OSSO JUNIOR AT OAK TREE
Bliss fires hole-in-one, ties for win in Girls Division

EDMOND, Okla.—Five juniors took medalist honors in Monday's qualifier for the OSSO Junior at Oak Tree, part of the AJGA Srixon Qualifier Series.

Three juniors in the Boys Division tied at 1-over-par to earn medalist honors in the qualifier. Tyler Rody, 17, of Andover, Kan., Jordan Burleson, 16, of Edmond, Okla., and Chris Halley, 16, of Stillwater, Okla., all shot 71 at Oak Tree Country Club's West Course to lead the field. In the Girls Division, Caitlin Bliss, 16, of Katy, Texas, and Morgan Chambers, 17, of Purcell, Okla., were co-medalists with scores of 6-over-par 76.

The Srixon Qualifier Series, an 18-hole event conducted by the AJGA, was held at the West Course of Oak Tree Country Club in Edmond, Okla. A field of 102 juniors, including 42 from Oklahoma, competed for nine spots in the Boys Division and six spots in the Girls Division.

Rody appreciated the experience of playing under pressure and the added confidence of winning the qualifier.

“I hit some big putts in the middle of the round,” Rody said. “It kept me going.”

Burleson carded five birdies on the round, four of which were fired on the back nine.

“It's pretty important,” Burleson said of receiving entry into the tournament. “This helps my confidence.”

Halley said getting the ball on the greens helped him to his 1-over-par 71. Halley scored an even-par 35 on the front nine of the par-70 course.

“This is a pretty good field for the qualifier,” Halley said. “It feels good to get in.”

Rounding out the top five qualifiers in the Boys Division with scores of 3-over-par 73 were Josh Britain of McKinney, Texas, and Jamie Voegeli of Muskogee, Okla.

Bliss, who along with earning co-medalist honors fired a hole-in-one on No. 2, will enter another event in lieu of this week's tournament.

Chambers said that hitting her irons well helped her to a score of 76.

“I'm just glad I got in,” Chambers said. “It would have been a boring week if I hadn't.”

Rounding out the top three in the Girls Division were Kathryn Oliver of Waco, Texas, and Katy Nugent of Wichita, Kan., each with 7-over-par 77.
