LANG RISES TO WIN LUCENT GIRLS JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
Overcomes a four-shot deficit to win in back-to-back
weeks
LAWRENCE, Kan.- Brittany Lang of McKinney, Texas, carded
a 3-over-par 75 to capture the 10th annual Lucent Technologies
Girls Junior Championship at Alvamar Country Club on
Wednesday.

The event, conducted by the American Junior Golf Association,
featured 86 players representing 22 states and Japan.
Former champions of this event include Kellee Booth,
Kelli Kamimura, Leigh Anne Hardin, Miriam Nagl and Aree
and Naree Song-Wongluekiet.
Lang overcame a four-shot deficit to overtake Ina Kim
of Encino, Calif., to score back-to-back wins after
capturing the title at the AJGA Texace San Antonio Shootout
last week. The honorable mention Polo Golf Junior All-American
improved each of the three rounds to finish at 81-76-75--232.
Staying out of the rough helped Lang remain a model
of consistency.
"I hit a lot of fairways and greens which was
my number one goal," Lang said. "This course
is manageable when you do that."
Strong winds all week contributed to high scores as
players fought to stay in the 70s. Added Lang, "My
75 sure felt like even-par today."
Lang and Kim were tied heading into No. 13, but Kim's
double-bogey and Lang's birdie created a three-shot
swing. Back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 14 and 15 by Lang
created a one-shot margin between the two heading to
No. 16. Kim's second shot fell short of the green and
her putt from off the fringe ran 15 feet past the hole
and two putts later Lang held a two-shot lead heading
into No. 17.
"The 16th was the deciding hole," Kim said.
"If I would have two-putted, I think I would have
had a chance."
Lang went on to birdie the 500-yard par-5 17th hole
to give her confidence heading into the last hole.
"I felt pretty confident after No. 17 but I kept
telling myself to keep fighting even though there was
one hole left," said the 15-year-old.
Lang's bogey on No. 18 was good enough to secure the
first major in her AJGA career.
Kim's final-round 80 left her a shot off the lead at
233. Kelly Husted of Sarasota, Fla., finished in third
place at 236. Ashley Rollins of Austin, Texas, finished
five strokes back at 237 and Seiko Onoue of La Habra,
Calif., wrapped up fifth place at 239.
Thirteen-year-old Morgan Pressel of Boca Raton, Fla.,
coming off her appearance at the U.S. Women's Open,
carded a 79 for a three-day total of 244.
