KIM OPENS UP LEAD TO THREE IN GIRLS
DIVISION
Locke Shoots Second 1-Under-Par 71 to Stake Claim
on Boys Division Lead
ESSEX, Ontario - First-round Girls Division
leader Alice Kim of Los Angeles continued her strong
play and stretched her lead to three with a 74-74--148
tournament total after the second round of the AJGA
Toldo Group Eastern Canadian Junior. In the tightly
contested Boys Division, John Locke of Ashland, Ohio,
stepped up and fired his second 1-under-par 71 in as
many days to go 2-under-par for the tournament.
Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association,
the AJGA Toldo Group Eastern Canadian Junior features
85 players representing 14 states and three provinces.
Of the 85 players in the field, 43 hail from Canada.
For both Kim and Locke, this will be their first time
entering the final round as Division leaders in an AJGA
tournament.
Kim's comfortable being the player everyone is gunning
for.
"It's definitely a different perspective,"
the soon-to-be high school junior said. "Everyone
is going to go out there and make mistakes. I'm just
going to concentrate on not making any big ones that
can really hurt me."
Clare Lucey of Winnetka, Ill., with a 75-76--151 will
be Kim's nearest competitor. Lucey remained optimistic
after her play today.
"I left a lot of birdies hanging," Lucey
said. "I am going to stay solid and keep my composure
and just see what happens."
Erin Borowiec of South Lyon, Mich., rounds out the
Girls Division top three with a tournament total of
156.
In the Boys Division, Locke was happy with just the
chance to play as leader in the final round.
"I'm really going to be looking forward to it,"
Locke said. "I'm going to be seeing everything
from a different angle tomorrow. It should be a lot
of fun and hopefully I can keep everything going."
Shawn Lafontaine of Cobourg, Ontario, the Boys Division
first-round leader, shot 74 in the second round and
slipped to second, only one shot off the lead.
"I wasn't thinking through my shots," Lafontaine
said of his second-round score. "I was just stepping
up and hitting the ball. Tomorrow I'll be thinking through
things more and go after fairways and greens."
In the Boys Division top five, Andrew Parr of London,
Ontario joins Lafontaine in second at 143. Nick Kenney
of Etobicoke, Ontario, Bill Lewis of Westfield, Mass.,
and Raman Luthra of East Amherst, N.Y., follow tied
for third at 145.
Final-round action will begin tomorrow with tee times
running from 7:30-9:36 a.m. off the No. 1 and 10 tees.
