FAMILY TOYOTA/FAMILY HONDA JUNIOR

presented by Cox Media

Coto de Caza Golf and Racquet Club – South Course

Coto de Caza, California

August 17-20, 2004

OLSON REMAINS AT THE TOP IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

Chin maintains Girls Division lead at 2-under-par

COTO DE CAZA, Calif. – The day started off cloudy, but the silver lining shone through as the second round heated up for Eddie Olson who kept his lead in the Boys Division with a two-day total of 9-under-par 135 at the Family Toyota/Family Honda Junior presented by Cox Media.  Jane Chin broke out of her first-round tie and took sole possession of the lead in the Girls Division with a two-day total of 2-under-par 142.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Family Toyota/Family Honda Junior presented by Cox Media is being held at the South Course at the Coto de Caza Golf and Racquet Club. One-hundred and nineteen players, including 111 from
California, are entered in the 54-hole stroke play event.

One eagle, six birdies and four bogeys later, Olson, 17, of
Aptos, Calif., found himself at the top of the leaderboard again with a second round score of 4-under-par 68.  Olson found the round to be a struggle, even though he finished only one stroke higher than his previous round.

“I’ll take it,” he said.  “Golf is just a weird game.  I made a few putts though, which made up for my shots in the hazards.  My game was definitely on the greens today.”

Olson is looking for his first AJGA win and hopes to pull out another low score in the final round.

“I was striking the ball well in the first round, but the second round was all about my putting,” he said.  “Hopefully I can put the two together and get one more good score out there.  All in all, I’m pleased with the way I’m playing.”

Behind Olson are Erik Flores of
Grass Valley, Calif., Rory Hie of Lakewood, Calif., and James Lee of La Habra, Calif., with 5-under-par 139s.  Doug Fortner of Tustin, Calif., is alone at 3-under-par 141.

Chin, 17, of
Huntington Beach, Calif., took second place in the Las Vegas Founders Junior and is hoping to end the summer with her first AJGA win.

“I struggled a lot today,” she said.  “I shot a 39 on the front and a 34 on the back.  The back-nine was a lot easier for me.  I ended the round with a 15-footer for eagle on No. 18.”

Chin said she hasn’t started feeling the pressure for the final round yet.

“I just want to play golf and play well,” she said.  “I’m really looking forward to tomorrow.”

Behind Chin are Jane Rah of
Torrance Calif., with an even-par 144.  Jennifer Osborn of Huntington Beach, Calif., Ki-Shui Liao of Alameda, Calif., Tiffany Joh of San Diego, Calif., and Shannon Yocum of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., are tied with  with 1-over-par 145s.
