DAVIS MAINTAINS LEAD AT RICH HARVEST LINKS

Truitt alone in Girls Division

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – Kyle Davis of Kennett Square, Pa., fired a 1-under-par 71 for the second consecutive day, and remained atop the leader board at the Midwest Junior Championship at Rich Harvest Links.  Carly Truitt continues to lead the Girls Division after a finishing at even-par.

The Midwest Junior Championship at Rich Harvest Links is a 54-hole stroke-play event, conducted by the American Junior Golf Association.  The tournament includes 110 boys and girls junior golfers, ages 12-18, from 19 states.  Two Rolex Junior All-Americans and 61 Illinois residents highlight the field.

Davis completed another round under par, by shooting 35 on the front-side and finishing with a 36 on the back.  He continued his consistent play from the first round, finishing with four birdies on the day.  Davis was not able to hit his driver well, but credited his iron play with keeping him in the lead.

“My irons really kept me in it today,” Davis said.  “I missed several seven to ten foot putts, but overall I was pleased with my play. I continue to hold no expectations and I am looking forward to playing tomorrow.”

Davis was able to make birdie on Nos. 7, 12, 13, and 15, and an eagle on No. 9.  He mentioned his putt on No. 7 as the key to his round.  The eighteen-year-old was able to sink a 12-foot putt for birdie on the short par-3.  On the 545 yard par-5 No. 9, Davis holed-out from 30 yards for eagle and opened his lead to three strokes.

Trailing Davis with a two-day total of 145 is Jeff Kaiser of Onalaska, Wis.  Kaiser entered the day tied for third and finished with an even-par 72.  Andy Winings of Franklin, Ind., Craig Cerbins of Portage, Wis., and Peter Uihlein of North Dartmouth, Mass., all sit at 147.  Winings had the low round of the day with a 68, including a 31 on the back-nine.

Truitt of Marysville, Ohio, finished the second round with an even-par 74, to take the overall lead in the Girls Division.  The 2003 Rolex Junior All-American took sole possession of first heading into the final round, capitalizing on her strong putting on the back-nine.  Truitt made birdie on Nos. 10, 11, 15 and 16, leaving her with a two-day total of 152.

“I never got anything going on the front, but I also avoided making any big mistakes,” Truitt said.  “I hit the ball better than the first round and my putting was certainly better.”

The 18-year-old believes she has herself in perfect position heading into the final round.

“I’m starting to get this course and I really feel confident with where I am,” Truitt said.

Following Truitt is Jennie Arseneault of Grinnell, Iowa, who shot a 73 and trails by two strokes.  Kelly Calkin of St. Charles, Ill., sits in third, after carding a second-round 78.

The final round of the Midwest Junior Championship at Rich Harvest Links will begin Friday at 7 a.m. off the No. 1 tee.
