KAISER AND KINNEY NECK-AND-NECK IN WINDY CITY

Park makes first move in Girls Division

WINNETKA, Ill. -- Jeff Kaiser of Onalaska, Wis., and Joe Kinney of Antioch, Ill., both fired first-round 68s to put them 3-under-par and tied for the lead in the Boys Division going into the second round of the AJGA Windy City Junior.

So-Hyun Park of Bradenton, Fla., leads Lindsey Bergeon of Sarasota, Fla., by one stroke in the Girls Division after shooting a 1-over-par 72.

The AJGA Windy City Junior is a 54-hole stroke play event conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at Winnetka Golf Club. The tournament features 100 of the nation’s premier junior golfers, ages 12-18, from 26 states and Canada.

University of Wisconsin-bound Jeff Kaiser played near-bogey free golf his entire round.

“I hit the ball solid today,” Kaiser said. “I hit 13 greens and got up and down. If you keep the ball in play off the tee, the course doesn’t play very long.”

Kaiser’s lone bogey came on the par-3 13th, where he ended up with a tough lie in a bunker off the tee.

Kinney survived a bumpy round in which he drained six birdies but bogeyed three holes, including his first hole of the day. However, Kinney finished strong by hitting the last 9-of-12 greens in regulation and taking only 24 total putts.

“You have to stay committed and hit the ball strong when you’re putting on this course,” Kinney said.

Cashel Rosier of Grand Ledge, Mich., is in third place at 2-under-par 69, while four others are tied for fourth at 1-under-par.

Park played a sub-par front nine, which included a chip-in birdie from the No. 8 bunker, and finished with three birdies on her day.

“I putted so good today,” Park said. “I didn’t have a three-putt all day.  There is still two days left, so I’m not going to try to think about my score.”

Jennifer Hong of Windermere, Fla., is in third place after a 3-over-par 74 and two players stand at 76.
