KIM REMAINS IN CONTROL AFTER TWO ROUNDS AT COLONIAL

Salvo and Mori take over lead in girls division

JACKSON, Miss. – Lion Kim of Lake Mary, Fla. continued his strong play by widening his lead on the boys field by another stroke after the second round of the Nike Golf Junior at Colonial presented by the Mississippi Farm Bureau. Kim fired a 73 to put him 1-under-par for the tournament.

Sarah Salvo of Glendale, Calif., and Sakurako Mori of Ibaraki, Japan, are trying to make their AJGA debuts memorable. The two are deadlocked at the top of the girls division after 36 holes with a 6-over-par 150.

The Nike Golf Junior at Colonial presented by the Mississippi Farm Bureau is a 54-hole stroke play event conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at Colonial Country Club, Jackson Course.  The tournament features 84 of the nation’s premier junior golfers, ages 12-15, from 17 states, China and Japan.

Kim’s two-round total of 143 puts him two shots ahead of second place Mu Hu of Shen Zhen, China.  Spencer Cole of Greer, S.C., and Blake Nommensen of Houston, Texas, are tied for third.

“I’ll take it,” Kim said. “I am satisfied with my overall performance so far.”

Kim said he felt confident he can continue to succeed as long as he puts himself in good positions on the course.

“I just need to play aggressive and shoot for the flag,” Kim said.

In the girls division Salvo entered the second round tied for third place, but carded the low round of the day in the girls division with a 2-over-par 74 that included 14 holes at par or better.

“I feel pretty good about my second round,” Salvo said. “Knowing the course better helped.”

Seeing the course for a second time helped Mori as well.

“I played better than yesterday, but it was still difficult with the wet conditions,” Mori said.  “I shot very well on the front nine.”

Mori birdied three of her first six holes and made the turn at 1-under-par 35 and finished with a 75.

First-round leader Courtney Harter of Clearwater, Fla., and Wonjoo Choi, of Murrieta, Calif., are tied for third with a 9-over-par 153.
