AJGA players appear in Public Links Championships

U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship

After a closely contested 37-hole championship match, Byron Meth of San Diego, defeated Doug Ghim of Arlington Heights, Illinois, at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. Meth and Ghim shared medalist honors earlier in the week which gave them the distinction as the first championship match played between co-medalists since 1929.

Meth, a senior at the University of Pacific, competed in AJGA events from 2008-11, highlighted by a runner-up finish at the annual Stockton tournament in 2010 and top-showings at the 2010 PING Invitational and 2011 FJ Invitational.

Ghim was prepared for match play after competing at the Wyndham Cup a week earlier, where he was one of three players to go undefeated, winning three matches and halving one. The AJGA’s annual match play event was Ghim’s final junior event. He closed his career at No. 8 in the Polo Golf Rankings, after totaling three years of Rolex Junior All-America honors and four AJGA titles – including his signature win at the 2014 CB&I Boys Championship at Carlton Woods. Ghim will begin his collegiate career at the University of Texas in the fall.

U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship

Alice Jo
of Shanghai, China, defeated Eun Jeong Seong to win the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship, becoming the first USGA champion from China and second-youngest champion in the event’s history.

In just two years with the AJGA, Jo has finished within the top 20 in seven of eight starts. She won the 2013 Bob Jones Junior Championship, posted runner-up showings at the 2013 Ryan Moore Junior Championship and 2014 Rolex Tournament of Champions, and most recently tied for 19th at the inaugural Yani Tseng Invitational presented by the Swinging Skirts.

Leadership Links

What is Leadership Links?

Leadership Links is a new program whereby the AJGA is able to further its mission to help develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age. This program gives juniors all the tools necessary to donate their time, talent and resources to local charities and the AJGA youth development programs.
