Woods captures 74th TOUR victory

After winning at AT&T National this weekend, AJGA alum Tiger Woods earned his third PGA TOUR victory of the season and the 74th of his PGA TOUR career. His win at Congressional Country Club moves Woods to the top of the FedEx Cup rankings and moves him to second on the all-time PGA TOUR win list, behind only Sam Snead.

Woods opened with rounds of 72-68 and started Saturday five shots off the lead, only to come back with a 4-under-par 67. After battling with fellow AJGA alum Bo Van Pelt for the lead Sunday, Woods prevailed with an 8-under-par 276.

The 14-time Major winner played in 13 and won eight AJGA tournaments from 1991-1993, which ties him for second most AJGA career wins and earned him the title of Rolex Junior Player of the Year in 1991-1992. Woods appeared in the Wyndham Cup from 1990-1993 as a member of the West Team and posted a record of 11-3-2, the best of any boy in the tournament’s history.

Before beginning his professional career, Woods spent two years at Stanford, where he was a two-time first team All-American. In 1996 he was the NCAA individual champion, the Jack Nicklaus Player of the Year, the Pac-10 conference champion, and Pac-10 Player of the Year.
