AJGA alum Meadow clinches Curtis Cup for GB&I

Stephanie Meadow played in 17 AJGA events as a junior and was a two-time Rolex Junior All-American.

Of the 16 players set to compete in this weekend’s Curtis Cup, 12 competed in AJGA tournaments during their junior careers, and five played in the PING Junior Solheim Cup. Tiffany Lua is the lone American who has PING Junior Solheim Cup experience, while Amy Boulden, Charley Hull, Leona Maguire, and Kelly Tidy played for the Europe.

 

The Americans will look to extend their seven-match winning streak at The Nairn Golf Club in Nairn, Scotland, June 8-10.

Team USA

Lindy Duncan, a rising senior at Duke University, recorded nine top-10 finishes in her AJGA career. The three-time Rolex Junior All-American captured one AJGA title at the 2006 First American Title Junior Classic.

 

Austin Ernst compiled 10 top-10 finishes and was victorious at the 2007 Burgett H. Mooney, Jr. Rome Classic presented by State Mutual Insurance Company and the 2007 Ringgold Telephone Company Junior Classic. A rising junior at LSU, Ernst was a two-time Rolex Junior All-American.

 

Tiffany Lua, a rising senior at UCLA, was a four-time Rolex Junior All-American. She finished in the top 10 in 22 AJGA events and captured two AJGA victories. Lua represented the United States at the PING Junior Solheim Cup in 2007 and 2009 and amassed a 3-3-0 record.

 

A recent graduate of USC, Lisa McCloskey won three AJGA events in her junior career. The four-time Rolex Junior All-American won the Genesis Shootout presented by the Valero Texas Open in 2006 and 2008, and won the 2005 Stars of Texas Junior.

 

Brooke Pancake, who just completed her collegiate career at the University of Alabama, compiled nine top-10 finishes as an AJGA junior, including a pair of runner-up finishes.

 

Erica Popson, a rising junior at the University of Tennessee, finished in the top three in both AJGA events she competed in as a junior.

 

Emily Tubert, a two-time Rolex Junior All-American and a 2009 HP Scholastic Junior All-American, recorded nine top-five finishes, including a win at the 2010 Under Armour® / Vicky Hurst Championship. A rising junior at the University of Arkansas, Tubert finished second at the 2010 Rolex Tournament of Champions and won the 2010 Women’s Amateur Public Links.

 

Team GB&I

Amy Boulden (Wales) represented Europe in the 2011 PING Junior Solheim Cup and posted a record of 2-0-1, and was a member of the victorious Great Britain and Ireland team at the 2011 Astor Trophy competition. In May, she won the 2012 Welsh Amateur Championship at Cardigan Golf Club.

 

Charley Hull (England), currently ranked No. 4 in the World Amateur Women’s Golf Rankings, began her year by winning the Harder Hall Invitational and South Atlantic Ladies Amateur. Hull appeared in the 2011 PING Junior Solheim Cup and was the second-lowest amateur at the 2012 Kraft Nabisco Championship.

 

Leona Maguire (Ireland) is one of three players returning from the Great Britain and Ireland 2010 Curtis Cup Team. Since her appearance in 2010, Maguire won the Irish Ladies Golf Union title and the girls’ Order of Merit title in 2011, as well as the Irish U-18 Girls’ Open Stroke Play Championship in 2012. She also appeared in the PING Junior Solheim Cup in 2009 and 2011, posting a combined record of 3-2-1.

 

Stephanie Meadow (Northern Ireland), a sophomore at the University of Alabama, is currently ranked 10th in the world. Prior to her collegiate career, Meadow won two AJGA tournaments and was a two-time Rolex Junior All-American.

 

Kelly Tidy (England) won the British Ladies Open Amateur and the English Women’s Amateur title in 2010. The former PING Junior Solheim Cup player posted a record of 3-0-0 in 2009.

Leadership Links is a new program whereby the AJGA is able to further its mission to help develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age. This program gives juniors all the tools necessary to donate their time, talent and resources to local charities and the AJGA youth development programs.
