AJGA Returns to Mexico for Mayakoba Junior Golf Classic

The world-class El Camaleón Golf Club in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, will host the fourth annual Mayakoba Junior Golf Classic, August 16-19.

El Camaleón Golf Club at the Mayakoba resort is also home to the PGA TOUR’s Mayakoba Golf Classic and will provide juniors and spectators with a unique experience. Managed by Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, the course is Greg Norman's latest masterpiece. The 7,039-yard layout is unique - not just to Mexico but to the entire golfing kingdom. The course bends through three distinct landscapes - tropical jungle, dense mangroves, and oceanfront stretches of sand with holes bisected by massive limestone canals. Norman's even incorporated a cenote, a massive, ancient cavern common to the area, into the heart of the opening fairway. And as in all Norman projects, he has balanced the course to make it enjoyable for golfers of all abilities.

Players and parents will enjoy other amenities outside the realm of golf. The five-star Fairmont Mayakoba hotel is located within the same confines as the golf course, making travel to and from the course easy and convenient. The hotel has received the prestigious AAA Five Diamond Award® the past three years and was named No. 10 on the Top-15 Central America/Mexico Hotels list in Condé Nast Traveler's 20th Annual Reader's Choice Award. The resort provides an environment for relaxation off the course.

Players and parents are viewed and treated like PGA TOUR participants and enjoy the services to match. Participants will have access to the PGA TOUR locker room and will receive their own tournament locker with a personalized name plaque for the week.

The Pairings Party is one of the highlights of the Mayakoba Junior Golf Classic and takes place on the beachfront of the Caribbean Sea. The Pairings Party at MK Blue is the same event in style and presentation that is hosted by the PGA TOUR.

Additionally, players will experience PGA TOUR event yardage and hole locations, personalized driving range nameplates and the test of a truly demanding course. For those who rise to the challenge, replicas of the Mayakoba Golf Classic trophy will be presented to the boy and girl champion.

At the Mayakoba Junior Golf Classic, juniors will be exposed to a taste of the professional world of golf, intense competition and an international experience that will help prepare them for their golf career after the AJGA.
