My Scotty Cameron Moment

Scotty

Each week, the AJGA honors the boy and girl junior golfers who shoot the lowest round during the final tournament round. Each of these players will be presented with one of this year's new Scotty Cameron putter covers. In this feature, we will hear from the players each week who take home this honor and what helped them get there.

PING Phoenix Junior

“I bogeyed hole No. 5, but I birdied No. 6, so after that I felt confident and it helped keep me going for the rest of the round,” said Michael Kim of Del Mar, Calif., after his final-round 5-under-par 67.

“No. 18 was a big moment for me. I was kind of freaked out, but I got lucky on my second shot. It hit something and just rolled up to the hole,” said Daffodil Sanchez of Mesa, Ariz., after carding a final-round, 1-under-par 71 to help her to her second AJGA victory.

Junior All-Star at Penn State

“On the par-5 18th, I went driver then 3-iron into the green and made about a 15-foot eagle putt to bring me under-par for the day,” said Michael Bernard of Huber Heights, Ohio, who fired a final-round 4-under-par 68 to finish tied for fifth.

“I had three birdies in a row today starting on No. 13 and only missed one fairway,” said Girls Division champion Samantha Wagner of Easton, Pa., after her final-round, 2-under-par 70. “I really had fun on the back nine here.”

Bass Pro Shops/Payne Stewart Junior Championship

“Yes, I've been trying all summer to get the head cover!  Making that 40-foot birdie putt on No. 9 was my great moment of the day,” said Gabriella Then of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., after her final-round, 3-under-par 69 helped her win the Girls Division.

“I made a 20-foot birdie putt on No. 8.  I hadn't really made anything this tournament until then,” said Fletcher Johnson of Belden, Miss., who had a final-round, 5-under-par 67 and tied for second place. “I also birdied No. 9 afterwards and that got me started.”

AJGA Notre Dame Junior Open

“I made a curling putt to make birdie on No. 9,” said Boys Division champion Adam Sumrall of South Bend, Ind., after his final-round, 5-under-par 66. “That put me at 32 for the front-nine. It was a great way to go into the back.”

AJGA Junior Championship at the Virginian presented by Alpha Natural Resources

“I felt like I had played well all week but I finally made some putts the final round.  The hole that I remember most was the par-5 6th,” said Lucas Armstrong of Church Hill, Tenn., after carding a 3-under-par 69 that helped him finish tied for fifth. “I hit my second shot on the green and made a two-foot putt for eagle.”

“I hit it close on No. 1, but I missed the putt,” said Elizabeth Breed of Waynesboro, Pa., whose final-round, 1-over-par 73 helped her to a win in the Girls Division. “I'll take a par though. I was pretty shaky at No. 1, but I knew with the weather that scores weren't going to be very low.”
