College Round-up


Lindsey Solberg

It was an all-AJGA alumni top five at the Wolverine Intercollegiate which ended Sunday. UC-Davis’ Ramie Sprinkling won the tournament with a 7-under-par 206. John Murphy and Eric Mina of the University of California, Peter Malnati of Missouri, and Dan Woltman of Wisconsin rounded out the top finishers.

Caroline Westrup, competing for Florida State, won the Cougar Classic last Tuesday, finishing with a three-day total of 10-under-par 206. Whitney Neuhauser of Virginia, Marta Silva and Mallory Hetzel of Georgia and Allie White of the University of North Carolina all finished in the top five.

Lindsey Solberg finished tied for second at the Mary Fossum Invitational held in East Lansing, Mich., over the weekend, helping Michigan State claim the team title over Kent State. Julia Potter, competing for the University of Missouri, finished fourth.

Professional Round-up

Matt Bettencourt won the Nationwide Tour’s Oregon Classic Presented by Kendall Automotive Group with a tournament total 19-under-par 269, moving him from No. 53 to No. 19 on the Nationwide Tour money list. Bubba Dickerson, Spencer Levin, Bradley Iles and 1990 Rolex Junior All-American Brian Smock rounded out the top five.

Will MacKenzie won the Viking Classic held at Annandale Golf Club, Madison, Miss., in a sudden-death playoff over Marc Turnesa Sunday for his second PGA TOUR victory. Brian Gay, Steve Allan, Bill Haas, and Casey Wittenberg were the other top finishers.

AJGA alumni went a combined 13-10-11 to help the U.S. team reclaim the Ryder Cup Sunday. Hunter Mahan and J.B. Holmes went undefeated on the weekend, and Jim Furyk’s 2 & 1 victory over Miguel Angel Jiménez secured the U.S. win. Team USA finished with 16.5 points to Europe’s 11.5, bringing the cup back to the United States for the first time in nine years.

ACE

The Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program provides financial assistance to junior golfers who wish to play in AJGA events. Its goal is to give top-flight golf opportunities to young golfers regardless of financial resources. This program helps to fulfill the AJGA’s mission of developing young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.

What is Leadership Links?

Leadership Links is a new program whereby the AJGA is able to further its mission to help develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age. This program gives juniors all the tools necessary to donate their time, talent and resources to local charities and the AJGA youth development programs.
