College Round-up

Alabama’s Matthew Swan rose to the top of the leaderboard during the Puerto Rico Classic to win his first collegiate tournament and lead Alabama to the team title. Swan shot a 12-under-par 204 tournament total to take a five-shot victory. Rickie Fowler of Oklahoma State finished in second with a 7-under-par 209. Alone in third was Charlie Holland of Texas with a 6-under-par.


Jaclyn Sweeney

Amanda Blumenherst of Duke took home her 10th career victory during the Arizona Wildcat Invitational, winning by three shots. Oklahoma State took home team honors, led by freshman Jaclyn Sweeney who finished her second collegiate tournament tied for second at 3-over-par with USC’s Belen Mozo.

Arkansas’ Stacy Lewis was victorious at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic after shooting a 68-70-70–208 tournament total. Her 8-under-par was four shots ahead of Purdue’s Maude-Aimee LeBlanc who finished in second. South Carolina’s Benedicte Toumpsin finished at 2-under-par in third place. Alabama took home team honors.

David McAndrew of Stetson and Kyle Hammond of Florida Golf Coast University shared medalist honors with 5-under-par 139s at the Bethune-Cookman Spring Invitational…Bethune-Cookman’s Willie Mack won his first collegiate tournament at the FAMU Spring Invitational and led his team to top honors…Scott Travers of Santa Clara defeated Loyola-Marymount’s Brian Locke in a playoff helping to lead his team to victory…Teammates Greg Forest and Mike Stern of UCF shared medalist honors at the Rio Pinar Invitational after shooting 11-under-par 205s…Middle Tennessee State took home team honors at the All-American Golf Classic. University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s Brian Whittle earned medalist honors with the only under-par score, shooting a 5-under-par 211 for the tournament…Elon earned team honors with help from Jimmy Lytle who was victorious in the individual category shooting a 6-under-par 210…Freshman Scott Langley took home his first collegiate victory at the Argonaut Invitational after shooting an 8-under-par 208. West Florida took home the team victory.

College of Charleston’s Courtney Brink and teammate Steffi Kirchmayr shot 2-under-par 142s to share medalist honors and help lead their team to the top at the Cuthbert Cup…Therese Nilsson defeated Lamar teammate Channing Norton in a playoff at the Islander Spring Classic. Their top finishes allowed Lamar to take home the team victory…Taylor Siebert of Fresno State shot an even-par 144 to lead the way at the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational. ACE

The Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program provides financial assistance to junior golfers who wish to play in AJGA events. Its goal is to give top-flight golf opportunities to young golfers regardless of financial resources. This program helps to fulfill the AJGA’s mission of developing young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.

What is Leadership Links?

Leadership Links is a new program whereby the AJGA is able to further its mission to help develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age. This program gives juniors all the tools necessary to donate their time, talent and resources to local charities and the AJGA youth development programs.
