College Round-up


Morgan Hoffmann

Morgan Hoffmann tied for first place at the PING/Golfweek Preview last week with Robin Wingardh of Tennessee, helping the Oklahoma State Cowboys win the team title over Tennessee by 16 strokes. Hoffmann’s teammates Trent Leon and Rickie Fowler, along with Bud Cauley of Alabama, Jesper Kennegard of Arizona State, and Kyle Stanley of Clemson all finished in the top five.

Catherine O’Donnell, a freshman at North Carolina, tied for first at the Tar Heel Invitational Sunday with Jean Chua and Natalie Sheary of Wake Forest. Nannette Hill, also of Wake Forest, Cydney Clanton of Auburn, and Jacqui Concolino of Vanderbilt all tied for fourth. Wake Forest won the team title over North Carolina by 12 strokes.

Mark Whisenant of Jacksonville State won the Mission Inn Collegiate Classic Sunday. Teammate Hunter Hawkins finished second. Kyle Hammond and Michael Hart of Florida Gulf Coast University, and David McAndrew of Stetson rounded out the top five.

Professional Round-up

In LPGA action, Paula Creamer, the 2003 Rolex Junior Player of the Year, was victorious at the Samsung World Championship Sunday. Creamer now has 10 wins in her professional career and moved up to third in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings. Finishing in the top 10 were Lorena Ochoa, Katherine Hull, and Cristie Kerr.

On the PGA TOUR, Dustin Johnson won the Turning Stone Resort Championship held in Verona, N.Y., Sunday with a four-day total of 9-under-par 279. Charles Howell III, Woody Austin, Davis Love III, Robert Garrigus, and Ryuji Imada all finished tied for third.

ACE

The Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program provides financial assistance to junior golfers who wish to play in AJGA events. Its goal is to give top-flight golf opportunities to young golfers regardless of financial resources. This program helps to fulfill the AJGA’s mission of developing young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.

What is Leadership Links?

Leadership Links is a new program whereby the AJGA is able to further its mission to help develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age. This program gives juniors all the tools necessary to donate their time, talent and resources to local charities and the AJGA youth development programs.
