College Round-up


Candace Schepperle

Darren Blair of North Carolina State won The Bank of Tennessee at The Ridges Tournament Sunday. He finished with a total of 6-under-par 210. Zack Byrd of Coastal Carolina, Rhys Enoch of East Tennessee State, Dustin Groves of Wake Forest and Zack Sucher of UAB all finished in the top five.

Arizona State was victorious at the Derby Invitational in Auburn, Ala., Sunday.  They won the team title over Virginia by 18 strokes. Anna Nordqvist and Azahara Munoz of Arizona State, Whitney Neuhauser of Virginia, Candace Schepperle of Auburn and Dori Carter of Mississippi made up the top five.

Professional Round-up

Sergio Garcia won the Castello Masters Sunday for his first European Tour victory since 2005. He won by three shots over Peter Hedblom. Alexander Noren, Simon Dyson, Søren Kjeldsen, and David Lynn rounded out the top five.

D.A. Points won the Nationwide Tour’s Miccosukee Championship Sunday, beating Matt Bettencourt with a birdie on the first playoff hole. Bryce Molder, Josh Broadaway and Gavin Coles rounded out the top five.

On the PGA TOUR, Cameron Beckman won the Frys.com Open Sunday at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., home of the AJGA’s Thunderbird International Junior. He came from behind with a final-round, 7-under-par 63 to force a playoff with Kevin Sutherland. Beckman won on the second playoff hole. Mathew Goggin, Mike Weir, J.J. Henry and Arron Oberholser all finshed in the top five.

ACE

The Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program provides financial assistance to junior golfers who wish to play in AJGA events. Its goal is to give top-flight golf opportunities to young golfers regardless of financial resources. This program helps to fulfill the AJGA’s mission of developing young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.

What is Leadership Links?

Leadership Links is a new program whereby the AJGA is able to further its mission to help develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age. This program gives juniors all the tools necessary to donate their time, talent and resources to local charities and the AJGA youth development programs.
