U.S. Team Finishes Third in France

The U.S. Team of Erynn Lee of Silverdale, Wash., Grace Na of Oakland, Calif., Jordan Spieth of Dallas, and Justin Thomas of Goshen, Ky., finished third at the inaugural Evian Masters Juniors Cup Monday, posting a 438 two-day total. Only Japan (428) and Spain (436) finished the 36-hole event in front of the American squad.

Conducted by the French Golf Federation and the European Golf Association, the Evian Masters Juniors Cup was an international mixed individual and team competition (made up of two girls and two boys born in 1993 or later) that was decided over two 18-hole rounds. The tournament was staged at the par-72 Evian Masters Golf Club in Evian les Bains, France. A boys‚ and girls‚ champion was crowned along with a Nation‚s Cup that was determined by the three best scores each day. Other countries represented in the competition included France, Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Greece, Scotland and Korea.

Leading the U.S. Team, Thomas finished second in the Boys Division and third overall by carding a two-day 72-70˜142 tournament total. By placing third, Thomas will now participate in the Rolex Pro-Am that precedes the Evian Masters, one of the world‚s premier women‚s professional golf events, on Wednesday, July 25.

In May, the American Junior Golf Association was asked to select two girls and two boys born in 1993 or later to represent the United States in the first-ever Evian Masters Juniors Cup. In an effort to remain objective in the selection of the U.S. team, the AJGA used its Polo Golf Rankings and Performance Based Entry methodology as of May 31 to award playing spots to the most deserving members.

The AJGA appreciates the support of Polo Ralph Lauren in providing uniforms for the U.S. team. The team was outfitted in red, white and blue hats, shirts and pants with the American flag. Polo Ralph Lauren is an AJGA Premier Partner and the Official Sportswear of the AJGA.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.

The largest Association of its kind, the AJGA has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of more than 5,000 junior golfers from 49 states and more than 25 foreign countries.

Titleist, the AJGA‚s National Sponsor, has been the catalyst and driving force behind the Association‚s success since 1989. Rolex Watch USA, which is in its third decade of AJGA support, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004. In 2007, after 12 years of support, Polo Ralph Lauren became the AJGA‚s second Premier Partner.

AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. More than 160 former AJGA juniors currently play on the PGA and LPGA Tours and have compiled more than 300 wins. AJGA alumni include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Stewart Cink, Davis Love III, Cristie Kerr, Pat Hurst, Paula Creamer, Morgan Pressel and Julieta Granada.
