Junior Round-up

AJGA junior Peter Uihlein

For the second year in a row, Peter Uihlein of Bradenton, Fla., has come home with the win at the Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational. Tied after two rounds of play with Matt Hoffenberg of Simi Valley, Calif., Uihlein made the birdie putt on his first playoff hole and defended his title. Hoffenberg set a tournament single day record after shooting a 9-under-par 62 in the final round.

College Round-up

Mississippi State's Matt Fast helped boost his team to top honors at the Callis Communications Intercollegiate after shooting a 10-under-par 206 tournament total. Finishing tied for second were Southeast Louisiana's Brett Bergeron and Belmont University's Jeff Lanier.

Matt Cook of Western Carolina defeated Kris Shepherd of Kennesaw State in a playoff at the Sea Trail Men's Intercollegiate. They both shot a 10-under-par 134 in regulation. Jimmy Lytle of Elon finished third with a 6-under-par 138. Western Carolina took home the top team honors.

AJGA alum Mallory Hetzel

Duke University's Women's team suffered their first loss of the season at the Golf Daytona Beach Fall Preview this weekend. The University of Georgia took home the team honors led by sophomores Mallory Hetzel who finished tied for second and Taylor Leon who finished tied for fourth. Tennessee's Nicole Smith took home the top individual honors after shooting a 5-under-par 211 tournament total and finishing four strokes ahead of the competition. Leah Wigger of Virginia also finished tied for second. Arizona State's Anna Nordqvist and Vanderbilt's Jacqui Concolino finished tied for fourth.

Penn State was led by Evelyn Paik at the Nittany Lion Invitational last weekend after her 8-over-par took home the individual title. Yale's Lindsay Hong and Ellie Brophy finished second and third, respectively.

Other Alumni in Men's College Golf...

Gary Woodland of Kansas earned individual honors at the Kansas Invitiational last week after shooting a 9-under-par 207 and helping lift the team to top honors...Charlie Beljan of the University of New Mexico helped lift the team to top honors after medaling at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate...Blake Sattler of Akron finished at 6-under-par, two shots ahead of the competition at The McLaughin last weekend. Along with teammate Brad Wright who finished tied for second, Akron received top team honors.

Other Alumni in Women's College Golf...

Denver's Stephanie Sherlock took home the individual title and led her team to top honors at the Salbasgeon Suites Invitational last week. She finished two shots ahead of Selanee Henderson of UC Irvine...Kelly Calkin of the University of Maryland took home top honors at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup last week. Jenny Calkins of University of Louisville finished second and was the top finisher for her team who took home top team honors...Cincinnati's Hillery Wilson medaled at the Lady Irish Invitational leading her team to victory...Annika Welander of Princeton finished at 2-over-par to help her team to the top, along with teammate Marlowe Boukis who finished tied for second. Also tied for second with St. John's Brittany Lambertson.

The Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program provides financial assistance to junior golfers who wish to play in AJGA events. Its goal is to give top-flight golf opportunities to young golfers regardless of financial resources. This program helps to fulfill the AJGA’s mission of developing young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.

What is Leadership Links?

Leadership Links is a new program whereby the AJGA is able to further its mission to help develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age. This program gives juniors all the tools necessary to donate their time, talent and resources to local charities and the AJGA youth development programs.
