College Round-up

Colt Knost of Southern Methodist University earned medalist honors last week at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate. The SMU junior earned this distinction for the second straight year. He also helped boost his team to its second straight team title at this event. Knost's 1-under-par was one stroke better than UNC-Wilmington's Will Shambley. Finishing in third was SMU's Brandon DeStefano.


AJGA Alum Colt Knost

The George Washington Invitational was dominated by AJGA alumni last week. Seton Hall's Kyle Morris took home medalist honors with a 4-under-par finish. He bested GW's Brian Carroll by three strokes and Skidmore's Michael Stiller by four. The University of Pennsylvania took home the top team honors. The Quakers were led by Derek Rogers and Sean Barrett, who both finished at 3-over-par in a tie for eighth.

Two-time Rolex Junior All-American Marci Turner was the only player to finish under par at the Donnis Thompson Invitational and helped lead Tennessee to team honors. Turner finished 3-under-par, four strokes ahead of the field. Tennessee claimed the top-four spots and led the field by 38 strokes. Golda Johansson finished second followed by Nicole Smith. Rounding out the top four was Violeta Retamoza.

Other AJGA Alumni in Men's College Golf...

Cincinnati's Joe Young finished 2-under-par at the Butler Spring Invitational to take home individual honors and lead his team to the team title...Brent Paladino of William and Mary tied for top honors with Loyola College's Will Shriver and St. Bonaventure's Josh Anderson. Liberty University took team honors led by Andrew Turner...Kenji Murayama of the University of New Orleans led the Grub Mart-Young Oil Intercollegiate. Jacksonville State took home top team honors...Denver's James Love finished the Pioneer Classic at 17-under-par to take home individual honors. Louisville took team honors by one stroke over Nebraska...Maryland took home team honors at the Furman Intercollegiate with Blaine Peffley leading the way. Peffley's 10-under-par was six strokes better than Western Carolina's Matt Cook.

Other AJGA Alumni in Women's College Golf...

Ball State's Katie Sundberg finished 2-over-par at the Butler Spring Invitational to take home medalist honors and lead her team to the team title...Brigham Young University's Rachel Newren led the field at the Anteater Invitational last week. UC-Irvine's Jane Chin and Selanee Henderson both finished tied for second. BYU took home top team honors...Maryland's women led the way at the Lady Herd/El Diablo Intercollegiate. Kelly Calkin, Katie Trotter and Katie Stepnek all were top finishers for the Maryland team...Christina Wentworth of University of Alabama-Birmingham took home medalist honors at the Cincinnati Spring Invitational. Illinois's Casey Burden, Seul Ki Park, and Meghan Naik and Cincinnati's Hillery Wilson finished tied for second. Illinois took home the team title.

ACE

The Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program provides financial assistance to junior golfers who wish to play in AJGA events. Its goal is to give top-flight golf opportunities to young golfers regardless of financial resources. This program helps to fulfill the AJGA’s mission of developing young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.

What is Leadership Links?

Leadership Links is a new program whereby the AJGA is able to further its mission to help develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age. This program gives juniors all the tools necessary to donate their time, talent and resources to local charities and the AJGA youth development programs.
