(July 11): Moore Wins Sahalee Players Championship in
Record Fashion
Creamer Continues Strong Play in LPGA Events
Ryan Moore
of Puyallup, Wash., a Rolex Junior All-American from
1999-2001, won the Sahalee
Players Championship with a 16-under 272, breaking
the tournament scoring record by seven strokes. During
his AJGA career, Moore also won the Thunderbird International
Junior in 2001.
Ryan
Blaum of Coral Gables, Fla., also produced a jaw-dropping
performance en
route to winning the Eastern Amateur. The 2002 Rolex
Junior All-American fired a final-round 62 to tie the
tournament and course record and win by one stroke.
Paula
Creamer of Pleasanton, Calif., again showed her ability
to compete with the world's best golfers after posting
a tie for 18th at the BMO Financial Group Canadian Women's
Open last week. The Rolex Junior Player of the Year
preceded last week's performance with a tie for 13th
at the U.S. Women's Open, a feat that earned her low
amateur honors along with Michelle Wie.
The
17-year-old also tied for second at the ShopRite LPGA
Classic in mid-June and finished 13th at the Wegmans
Rochester LPGA event the next week. In three weeks,
Creamer will join her West Canon Cup teammates to try
and defend the Cup the West team won over the East in
a tightly contested battle last year. |
