Newsmakers (March 7): Creamer Finishes Tied for Sixth in Mexico

LPGA rookie Paula Creamer shot a final-round 68 to finish tied for sixth at the inagural MasterCard Classic honoring Alejo Peralta at the Bosque Country Club in Mexico City, Mexico. Creamer carded a 1-under-par 215, and finished six strokes behind champion Annika Sorenstam.

One week after finishing tied for second, Cristie Kerr earned a tie for third. Kerr shot a final-round 3-over-par 75. Fellow AJGA alum Lorena Ochoa of Guadalajara, Mexico, carded seven birdies during the final round and finished with a 4-under-par 68. Ochoa finished with a tournament-total 2-under-par 214, five shots off the lead.

Tiger Woods sank a 30-foot birdie putt at No. 17 to break a tie with Phil Mickelson and earn a come-from-behind victory at the Ford Championship at Doral. Woods finished with a tournament-record 24-under-par. Woods carded rounds of 65-70-63-66 and reclaimed his No. 1 ranking in the world with the victory.

Mickelson finished with a final-round 3-under-par 69 and barely missed a chip shot at No. 18, which would have extended the contest. The event marked the third time Woods and Mickelson have faced each other in the final round at a tournament. Woods improved to 3-0 in the matchup.
