SPARTA, N.J. -Annie Park of Levittown, N.Y., won the Lessing's AJGA Classic in a sudden-death playoff with Cindy Ha of Demarest, N.J. After 18 holes, Park and Ha were tied at 4-over-par 214. The playoff lasted two holes. In the Boys Division, Peter Kim of Metuchen, N.J., shot a final-round score of 4-under par 66 to jump into the lead, becoming the only player in the field to finish with a tournament total that was under par.
The Lessing's AJGA Classic was a 54-hole stroke play event conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at SkyView Golf Club in Sparta, N.J. The tournament field consisted of one hundred players from 14 states, Mexico and Canada. The Boys Division played the par-70 course at 5,954 yards and the Girls Division played at 5,404 yards.
Park started the day two strokes out of the lead. She battled back, carding four birdies on the day to earn a playoff with Ha. She was excited to win her first AJGA tournament since 2008.
“This win means a lot to me, because it prepares me going into the Junior PGA tournament,” Park said. “I did a lot of things well this week, and I regained some confidence.”
Finishing second in the Girls Division was Cindy Ha with a tournament total of 4-over-par 214. Hana Ku of Basking Ridge, N.J., carded a tournament total of 10-over-par 220 to take third place.
In the Boys Division, Kim had five birdies on the day to catapult himself into the champion position, shooting a tournament total 1-under-par 209. He attributed his success to his consistency.
“It feels great to get this win,” Kim said. “I knew I was in contention and I just played well all day. I hit a lot of fairways and a lot of greens. I made a good amount of putts and I was able to pull out the victory.”
Alexander Hicks from Cape May Court House, N.J., finished in second place with a tournament total of even-par 210. James Park of Deerfield, Mass. carded a 1-over-par total for the tournament and took home third place.
