Pompey tops Boys Division After Round Two of Rochester Open Championship
Hooton swings into lead at Ravenwood Golf Club

VICTOR, N.Y. — David Pompey of Clarks Summit, Pa., took control of the Boys Division with a second-round score of 3-under-par 69, for a two-day total of 1-under-par 143. Courtney Hooton, of Del Mar, Calif., jumps ahead in the Girls Division with a second-round score of 6-under-par 66, for a tournament total of 3-under-par 141.

The Rochester Open Championship is a 54-hole stroke play event conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at Ravenwood Golf Club. The tournament field consists of 96 players from 15 states and Canada. The Boys Division is playing the par-72 course at 6,976 yards and the Girls Division is playing at 6,123 yards.

Pompey played a solid second round, carding four birdies and 13 pars. His near-eagle on No. 6 started his momentum for the rest of the round.

“I was on the green in two and putting for eagle,” Pompey said. “I left it short, but was still happy with a birdie.”

Pompey hopes to continue this play into the final round.

“I'm just going to take every hole as its own and turn out some good numbers,” Pompey said.

Nick Rodriguez of Shrewsbury, Mass., finished the second round with a score of 2-under-par 70 for a tournament total of 1-over-par 145. Austin James of Bath, Ontario, carded a second-round score of 4-over-par 76, for a tournament total of 2-over-par 146. Austin Connelly of Las Colinas, Texas and Cody Cox of Milford, Pa., both sit tied for fourth, four strokes off the lead at 147.

The rainy conditions had no effect on Hooton's second-round game. Carding an impressive six birdies and 12 pars, Hooton played a consistent round at Ravenwood Golf Club.

“It was pretty tough playing with the rain at first,” Hooton said. “But I'm used to this kind of weather and I'm really happy with how today went.”

Headed into the final round, Hooton's main strategy is to stay level-headed.

“I just need to leave the first two rounds behind me and focus on tomorrow's round,” Hooton said. “I'll take it shot by shot and concentrate on my short game because that's what worked well today.”

Talia Campbell of Dallas, carded a second-round score of 1-under-par 71 for a tournament total of even-par 144. Andrea Wong of San Francisco, shot a second-round score of even-par 72 putting her four shots off Hooton's pace.
